I had a great experience learning traditional Indian music in Varanasi. The teacher was very skilled and patient, and I learned a lot in a short time. I got to play both the sitar and the tabla, which made the experience feel authentic and unique. I can warmly recommend this to anyone interested in Indian music.
I went here today as a group of 6 and wow, what a special experience it was. Krishna was so kind and helpful answering all of our questions. We came for a tabla lesson but anytime someone pointed out an instrument he would bring it down and play it for us or let us try. He played the sitar and tabla for us and we all loved it. His Mum came down and played harmonium for us and made us all chai tea. They told us all about their family and how the shop is 3 generations old. They were such a kind family and I loved having an authentic music experience in India. I would recommend this experience to anyone. Even if you have no musical talent it was so fun going along to try. The shop also has signs placed around so it's very helpful when trying to find it. We can't thank you enough Krishna and your Mum. We have been talking about it all day!
Suraj and his shop I returned to after 4 years..and was treated by his Golden beautiful being and Tabla playing..Suraj organised a friend who was a master on Sitar..to give us a private concert and my dear friend Doug played didgeridoo with these masters and learnt some ancient raja rhythms..this space is soft and soothing to the spirit..and Suraj is a total.treasure and now life friend..I loved meeting his beautiful mother Meena who made us yummy chai.. Please 🙏 people this is real deal spirit 🙏 music honour of his generations of tradition..go go go to this
Great experience Thank you suraj for your hospitality and sharing your music knowledge with us. Definitely we will comeback soon to learn more about Indian classical music and experience
I was lucky to find a perfect shop with a teacher who is an actual graduate in Music. Thanks Viator and Tripadvisor! If you have been in India before, then you know, there are many "half baked" shops who claim quality but don't deliver it. I was able to learn tabla and tampura (highly recommended), and was able to experience the healing of the sound first hand. Something to be said about hand made instruments... it just feels so different, so divine. The teacher is a professional with many years of experience, you could tell by his level of patience and teaching skills. The shop itself is beautiful, clean, westernized, - not like the other slum looking shops in Varanasi that I've visited. Very impressive. High-quality service and high quality experience for sure.
