A lovely day in the mountains, we visited in winter and did a snow shoe hike up the valley to a picturesque spot near the foot of the two volcanoes. We were fortunate enough to see condors and a zorro/fox. Snow shoes and poles were provided, but not much information was provided about the conditions to expect on the mountain, and how to dress for it. The gradient of the hike was quite gentle to ensure it’s accessible for a wide audience. Information about the region and mountains provided on the drive and the hike was great, really informative. The drive too and from the location is a couple of hours each way. There’s a ‘breakfast’ stop, which is pretty basic. You can also hire snow clothing if needed.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Mat. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the snowy landscape, the views of the volcanoes, and the opportunity to see both condors and a fox. We’re sorry you felt there wasn’t enough information about the mountain conditions and clothing. Before the tour, we sent you a detailed list recommending trekking shoes, warm clothing, a windbreaker or jacket, gloves, long pants, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, a backpack, and spare socks due to the snow. We are also always available to answer any questions before departure. The breakfast stop is an optional opportunity to purchase something before heading into the mountains, while the tour includes a box lunch and our traditional cheese-and-wine picnic. Thank you again for joining us and for highlighting the information provided by our guide throughout the day. Your feedback helps us continue improving how we communicate the tour conditions to our guests.
Fantastic day out, one of the best tours ive done for seeing wonderful scenery with snow everywhere covering the andes. Our guide Andres was fantastic highlighting rock formations, types of minerals in the rocks, which animals were in the area from their prints left behind in the snow. At the end we saw 2 condors flying overhead. Would highly recommend this tour if travelling solo or in a group.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the snowy scenery of the Andes and all the interesting information Andrés shared along the way. Seeing two condors flying overhead must have been the perfect ending to the day! We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you on another adventure in Chile someday.
Dress in layers that are easy to remove/put on. The hike was absolutely beautiful and the guides were great in taking rests/breaks throughout the climb. Each hiker is best off carrying their own backpacks to have water/electrolytes for the day.
In talking with friends about our trip to Chile we've referenced "when we were in the Andes" so many times because of the wonderful experience we had on this hike. The views and scenery were breath taking. We're in shape and in our 70's and didn't have a problem with the altitude, sun and 4.5 mile hike, but others did so go prepared. The young guides were experienced and very safety focused. The extra stop on the way back to Santiago for Wine and a wonderful charcuterie board and deserts was the cherry on top of a very remember able day in Chile.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It truly means a lot to hear that your day in the Andes became such a memorable part of your trip to Chile. We love that you’ve been sharing stories about “when we were in the Andes” with your friends—that’s exactly the kind of experience we hope every guest takes home. We’re especially happy to know you enjoyed the breathtaking scenery, felt safe with our guides, and appreciated the cheese, wine, and charcuterie picnic at the end of the hike. It’s always our goal to combine adventure, nature, and a few special touches to create an unforgettable day. Thank you as well for mentioning the importance of being prepared for the altitude and mountain conditions. It’s valuable advice for future travelers. We hope to welcome you back to Chile someday for another adventure in the Andes. Safe travels, and thank you again for choosing AndoAndes!
Amazing hike with beautiful views of the volcano. Excellent tour guide who pointed out interesting features and knew the best photo opportunities.
Andres is a great tour operator and person. He is very knowledgeable as it relates to the experience. He comes across as a genuinely good guy. He’s metal! Made us feel welcomed and safe. His English is perfect. Hike was easy if you are at a medium fitness level. Important stuff: you make a coffee/breakfast stop, lunch/water included, afternoon wine cheese included, bathroom stops are made. For expectations know that It takes about 2 hours to get to the mountains and two hours to get back. If you are an avid hiker this isn’t an off grid multi day trip so don’t expect it to be like hiking in Patagonia.
Awesome tour with very nice guides. Beautiful scenery. Really worth a visit, also (especially!) in winter when there’s snow.
The lady was very knowledgeable about all of the Chilean history as she was a history professor and was very nice and wanted to be there.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re glad to hear you had an enjoyable experience and appreciated your guide’s knowledge and passion for Chilean history. However, it seems this review may have been intended for a different tour operator, as AndoAndes operates hiking and nature tours exclusively from Santiago, while your review appears to describe a tour in Iquique. If that’s the case, we would really appreciate it if you could update the review so it reaches the correct company. Thank you, and we wish you all the best on your future travels!
What an amazing experience. This was the best experience. The tour guides (Iris and team) were so helpful and fun, creating play lists from our favorite songs and taking the hike at a pace that was comfortable for everyone. What a beautiful scenic place, seeing the active volcano and playing in the snow was a highlight of our trip to Chile!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your day with us was such a memorable part of your trip to Chile. Iris and the entire team will be delighted to know that you enjoyed the atmosphere, the personalized playlist, and the relaxed pace of the hike. Sharing the beauty of the Andes, seeing the San José Volcano, and experiencing the snow with our guests is exactly what we love to do. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you back for another adventure with AndoAndes in the future!
What a great beautiful day! Everything went smoothly from pickup and drop off. The lunch and wine were amazing too! The guides and driver were also absolutely amazing! Thank you! The hike itself was easy to moderate.
