If you're visiting Bristol, do not miss the St Nicholas Market and Air Raid Shelter Walking Tour. It offers a fascinating look into the city’s rich history, starting through the bustling, vibrant St Nicholas Market and ending with an incredible step back in time below ground. The highlight of the experience was undoubtedly our guide, Owen. He was absolutely brilliant—engaging, energetic, and a fantastic storyteller. Navigating through the subterranean air raid shelter was a standout experience, with Owen regaling us with great knowledge at every turn. I really look forward to seeing how they develop the museum in the future! Whether you're a local looking to discover hidden history or a first-time visitor, this tour is worth every penny. Highly recommended!
Guide was really nice and the bunker was really interesting to learn about
Theresa is a brilliant guide— engaging and full of interesting information. We really enjoyed this tour!
Excellent from start to finish . Our guide Teresa kept us engaged and entertained throughout with stories of key buildings, individuals and events throughout the previous centuries. The air raid shelter and museum was very atmospheric and has some wonderful items on show .
Really interesting tour which brings to life another chapter in the long and dramatic history of Bristol. The mix of being in the real life locations, seeing the memorabilia, hearing the stories and the entertaining presentation makes it time well spent. Thoroughly recommend.
What a fantastic experience! My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the WWII air raid shelter walking tour, and so much of that was down to our brilliant guide, Owen. Despite it being an incredibly hot day, Owen was in full uniform, never once dropped character, and brought the whole experience to life with such warmth, humour and energy. He was knowledgeable, engaging and wonderfully jovial, and you could really feel the enthusiasm he has for what he does. There was a little background noise at times which made it slightly difficult to hear everything, but that certainly didn’t detract from what was a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable tour. It was just the right length and genuinely felt like stepping back in time. This was my partner’s third visit, which probably says it all, and I’m already looking forward to coming back with his mum and experiencing it all over again! Huge credit to Owen – an absolutely brilliant guide who made a great tour truly memorable. Highly recommended.
A very informative tour of the air raid bunker underneath St Nics Market. Lots of historical memorabilia to look at and interesting stories and facts from the wonderful ARP guide Owen! Would recommend 100%
Duncan was fantastic. Incredibly informative, passionate and clearly dedicated to what he does. He explained some of the newer additions to the tour and, while it would be completely wrong to describe it as a “work in progress”, there was a real sense that the experience is constantly evolving and being developed even further. The tour itself is fascinating, with so many interesting pieces of history, including information and images that you simply wouldn’t be able to find by searching online. What also makes it particularly special are the stories and personal accounts that have been shared by people who have previously taken part in the tour, adding another layer to the experience. Even if history isn’t normally your thing, there is still so much to take away from this tour. Duncan’s delivery, enthusiasm and storytelling really bring everything to life. A fantastic and genuinely fascinating experience that I would highly recommend.
Very interesting and also mind boggling to realise what the people of Bristol had to do to stay alive during a war. And to know now that there is still the original air raid shelter they used for us all to visit and learn about it. I am amazed. We visited with our son who took us there, as he had been before so he knew we would appreciate it all. We did. I have two items that I wish to donate, which I have kept, and hope that they will be appropriate for display. I recommend this tour and hope it continues forever.
I really enjoyed the tour. I didn't know anything about the Bristol blitz and had never been in an underground bomb shelter so it was very interesting to learn about it and to see it first hand. To be outside and see pictures of what buildings used to be there compared to what is there now was striking. The tour guide did a great job of making the tour interesting and memorable. I recommend the tour.
