I used Ace Car Rental as they offered a lower price for a very late model Hyundai Tucson very like the car I drive at home. First complaint, it was bait and switch. I was not offered the 2026 Hyundai Tucson pictured with my reservation but a Jeep. When I objected, I was offered a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. That was okay as I drive a 2022 Hyundai Tucson at home. Then the rental agent refused to accept my Visa Collision coverage without a written document or verbal phone confirmation from a visa representative. (Try getting a Visa Rep on the phone from Costa Rica.) Before driving off and during an inspection of the car with the agent, I point out a scratch on the car. Two days later I receive an email copy of the cars condition at the time of pick up, no mention or indication of scratch. Moreover the email indicates there is an emergency kit in the car. Not there. I am left feeling like I am about to be ripped off when I return the car. Happily this did not happen but the rental experience was not a pleasant one. Finally, I would note that car rentals in Costa Rica are expensive. My rental total was $693 for 6 days.
Ronnie our driver was very nice, he provided cold drinks for the 5 adults & 3 children in our family . It made the 1&1/2 hour drive from the Liberia airport to Tamarindo not seem so long! He gave us good suggestions for restaurants & excursions we could book during our week in Tamarindo.
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. We have booked through viator for many years and always had a good experience until now. We provided all of our flight information upon booking and did not hear anything back from them until the day of our flight AND after our flight was already in the air, so we did not get their message until we landed and had internet. They had left and we had to pay an extra 60 in USD to get them back. On the plus side, our driver was amazing and very friendly which is why they get 1 star instead of 0. It is just poorly run for what they charge.
We had a great experience! Driver was in time , really nice, and helpful. I definitely Recommend booking.

My round-trip Shuttle service was perfect. Communication was easy and drivers were on time. Drivers were professional and drove safely around costa rica to get us to our destination. Would definitely book again if I'm here traveling to Liberia, costa Rica.

This outfit is awesome!!! They provided our transport to and from the airport and were very flexible with our changing itineraries. Plus my teenage daughter left her iPod Max in the van and they drove an hour back to return them to us!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I’ve been going to Tamarindo every year for over 30 years. I was looking to retire there - at least do the snowbird thing - it’s no longer a feasible or attractive option for me. Rents have high skyrocketed. A month to month rental is $1000 for a studio and $1500 for a 1 bedroom - that’s if you wanna be in town. Hotels have really jacked up prices too. A decent hotel in high season is $120 to $300 per night. Even at those prices, it’ll be worth it to most people: the beach, the surf, the sun, the cute shops and a few great restaurants. It’s still charming, still Tamarindo, but there’s heavy traffic on the main road to town every day from early afternoon through the evening. With such large crowds there’ll always be hustlers and predators…I’ve never been approached by so many drug dealers in all my travels, and some of the related violence is literally unspeakable- I mean nobody talks about it. It’s unnerving. But this is the shrinking and hard world we live in. A highlight for most visitors to Tamarindo is getting out of Tamarindo for a day and visiting Lola’s Restaurant in Avellana. The edge of the ever expanding little city has always been my sweet spot. Safe travels and be a travel diplomat.
