Truths and convicted emotions

Sherry is a knowledgeable, passionate and mesmerising guide. She is highly relational, entertaining and a clear communicator. I loved using all of my senses to learn, and am even more in awe of the resourcefulness and ingenuity of Australia's First Peoples. I was also deeply shocked and saddened by past horrors.

Fantastic educational experience with Aunty Sherry!

We had high expectations going in, but these were blown out of the water. Truly one of the best experiences available in Melbourne; educational, enjoyable, and solemn. We ate flora, learned about trees used in ritual, and got history unavailable in any book or on any website, including how resourceful and respectful the First Nations people are of their land, waterways and sky. I could not recommend this experience more highly - book on the RBGM website! #alwayswasalwayswillbe

Learning about Aboriginal Heritage

A wonderful Reconciliation Week experience. Aunty Sherry was a fantastic tour guide who openly shared stories and customs of our First Nations people. We stopped and learnt about fauna and its role in Aboriginal healing and were able to smell, touch and eat indigenous plants lining the garden beds. A great day out!

Amazing experience - Highly, highly recommended!

We had a wonderful experience. The tour guide is absolutely amazing. She is passionate, knowledgeable, patient and kind. We all learnt so much on this tour. The tickets online are for adults only. We brought our 6-year-old with us, and she loved it as much as we did (we had asked for permission, and the tickets were free on that day anyways). I wish the botanical gardens opened the tours to kids, because it is very important to expose them early to the beauty of aboriginal culture and the depth of their scientific knowledge, as well as the dark moments of Australian history. I have recommended the tour to others, and I have also looked for other aboriginal tours in the city. The guide made me want to learn so much more about aboriginal culture. Thank you again!

Fabulous Indigenous garden tour

Aunty Sherry was an amazing guide for our work group tour! She started by explaining what the gardens would have been like before white settlement and gave a broad history of the struggles of Aboriginal people since that time. We were introduced to a variety of plants and smelt, tasted and learned their diverse uses for food, medicine and craft. We finished with a yarning circle and she shared with us personal belongings of possum skins and tools used many years ago by Indigenous Peoples. Highly recommend the tour! Sherry was informative, wise, warm and a fabulous host!

Plants and Proud People

A truly informative tour round the gardens with tastings of particular plants, fascinating. How these plants fitted into indigenous lives and spirituality was an integral part of the walk. Our tour-guide was so lovely, passionate and knowledgable. A discussion and exploration of the historical and current issues for First Nationers, together with some artefacts that we could handle was truly moving. Would recommend to anyone with an interest in plants and an open mind about modern Australia. Thank you.
