We had an amazing experience on our trip. Four early 20’s ladies decided to conquer Kilimanjaro head on during rainy season. We started a day early to make sure we beat the rain, but only were on the mountain for six days. I think communication on the front end could have been better. I was forced to pay an extra $200 for some miscommunication in their international wire, very frustrating since it wasn’t communicated beforehand how they wanted us to pay the rest of their cost. We also had a dispute about tips. We were told on the front end $1600 would include the Sherpa tips and everything included. After he back tracked and asked us to pay them tips every day to ensure a good positive experience. As you aren’t allowed to bring more than $200 on the mountain, and we were told our full cost would include tips, this threw us for a loop. We are all students who are on a limited budget. And while we respect and want to tip our Sherpas, we were told it was included. In the end we were told they would take on that miscommunication, but we also tipped what we could after with the remainder of our cash. Their packing list was very detailed, but it did not include micro spikes or crampons, so we were told to rent them for $15 from them. So slightly frustrating. Our camp set up was amazing and the Sherpas did an amazing job every time. The cooks made so much food we couldn’t eat it all! But it was 10/10 every time. We had tea or coffee with every meal. Each meal had two or three courses! Their packing list had sleeping bags and sleeping pads on it but they ended up providing the sleeping pads and three bags for us. So we put the extra sleeping bags over us on the extra cold nights. Our guides Jonah and Kim were spectacular, knowledgeable, helpful, and overall very passionate about Kilimanjaro. I will be requesting them the next time I go. If you can request them, do so they were a phenomenal team!! We learned about the geology, the plants and the history of the mountain. Our acclimatization was planned very well and we felt amazing all the way up to base camp. Our pace was good for our acclimatization. The views, plants and mountain alone were SPECTACULAR. During my summit, Jonah was amazing in coaching me through my emotions, my tired muscles and the lack of oxygen I was feeling. This stretch of the hike was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I was hit with some pretty strong altitude sickness and nausea early on and fought it the whole way up. He coached me and supported me. He walked at my (very very slow) pace, reminded me to sip my water, told me to rest when I was too stubborn to, and ultimately was the reason I made it to the top. He also supported me all the way down while I complained of joint pain and of my exhaustion. He was the reason I summited and made it back down on my own two feet. Our other guide Kim supported me past base camp in changing our camp location to the closer camp. My joints were in agony and feeling very tired in my spirit. I don’t think I would have made it to the further camp. He walked behind me the whole (very slow) way down. By the next morning my joints felt far more recovered and I was able to make it down to the exit at a reasonable pace. Also glad we did not pay the $250 for a private camp toilet. While I probably would get it for the high season… when camps are extremely full… I was happy we just used the squat pit toilets. Had to hold my breath a few times, and squat toilets were new for me, but a good experience. We got incredibly lucky with the weather, it only hailed for 30 minutes and a few times at night, but overall 10/10. We brought all the rain gear but used very little of it. We were alone with our group every night up until we stopped at base camp. So camp was very empty every evening. Someone in another group brought a dog to base camp and it barked all four hours of our pre summit sleep. Very very annoying. 10/10 overall the only reason I give 4/5 stars is the miss communication on tips (stressful) how they wanted us to wire the money (and ultimately paying $395 more in their fees alone) and only having six days on the mountain. We also ended up doing a safari with the same company, while he quoted us over $700 for two days we found one on Get Your Guide for $400 and asked him to match it. He did. I’ll write another review for that trip.

Our 2-day safari package is more extensive ($700 total) with 1Day waterfalls, coffe tour and hotspring including transportation go and retarn . And you remove all activities to choose just 2days only that why we charge $420) without waterfalls, coffe tour and hotspring activities. My GF and I come from Quebec, Canada, and we wanted to do both the Kilimanjaro and a Safari. It was a long process to find the good company to book with and we’re more than happy to have picked Rafael and Three Peaks Tanzania Safari. We knew he had been a guide/trip manager for 10+ years for various companies and that he was starting a new business of his own. We had heard good comments about him from friends but it was still a hard choice to trust a totally new company. We don’t regret our choice. First and foremost, Rafael was very reliable. Everything he promised was done with no overcharge. This is a big thing for us because we had read a lot of things about people paying for their trip and then having to pay more when they got in Tanzania. Every thing went just as we wanted. Plus, the service was exceptionally good. For instance, KLM lost our luggage in Amsterdam. Fortunately, we carried most of the stuff we needed for the hike with us in the cabins, but still we lacked some essential stuff like winter boot for the summit day on Kilimanjaro. Rafael’s staff picked up our luggage at the airport when it arrived, hired a porter to meet us on day 4 of the trek with the gear we needed for the coldest days in altitude. This is just one example. In another instance, most companies wouldn’t offer French guides on the mountain or they would offer it at a very expensive price. Rafael found us a very good French speaking guide named Frank. I honestly think that we succeeded going to the summit thanks to the good guiding of Frank and Rafael. They were going at the perfect pace to reach the summit without getting exhausted. This is a skill that, as we have seen, many guides in other companies lacked. Plus, we always felt in security. Our guides were very professional, carrying oxygen tanks and taking our oxygen saturation to make sure we were ok. Second, it was a very good trip for the price we paid. There’s a lot of variation between quotes of different companies for safaris and the Kilimanjaro. Rafael only sent us to 5 stars hotel when we’re in the city, and he only sent us to the best camps in the safari. We had private tents, hot shower etc. We had a private tour on Kilimanjaro. Everything was as good as it could be and for much less than what other companies charge for shared tents and lower quality hotels. Another important thing for us is that many companies take advantage of their porters. They pay them less than the minimum salary required by Tanzania. They lower the price to get more clients and still keep their profits. Some porters don’t get more than 5$ per day to carry 30Kgs. We know that Rafael takes care of his porters and employees. He pays them well and value their work. This was important to us. We had a really nice trip and if you’re looking for a safari or Kilimanjaro, we can only recommend Three Peaks Tanzania Safari!
