¡Bienvenido a Phnom Penh! La capital de Camboya se encuentra en la confluencia de los ríos Mekong, Tonle Sap y Bassac. Phnom Penh era considerada por muchos como la más hermosa de todas las ciudades construidas en Francia en Indochina y por eso antiguamente se la llamaba la perla de Indochina. Fue un bullicioso centro comercial durante la ocupación francesa, pero los años de guerra lo aplastaron hasta convertirlo en un campo de ruinas antes de convertirse en una ciudad fantasma durante el período de los Khmer Rouges. Es solo a partir de los años 90 que la ciudad realmente comenzó a recuperarse y hoy se ha restablecido como el centro político y financiero del país. Su rico pasado histórico se puede remontar a algunas evidencias de influencia jemer y francesa, como muchos templos de estilo jemer y algunos grandes edificios coloniales.

El Palacio Real y la Pagoda de Plata son dos de los edificios más llamativos de la capital y se consideran algunos de los mejores ejemplos de la arquitectura jemer. Fueron construidos inicialmente en 1866 por los franceses. El Palacio Real es el hogar del actual rey Sihamoni. La vecina Pagoda de Plata se destaca a su manera distintiva. El suelo consta de 5.329 baldosas de plata maciza a las que el edificio debe su nombre. El edificio alberga muchas estatuas de Buda de oro y joyas, incluido el muy apreciado Buda de cristal de baccarat del siglo XVII. Otros edificios importantes que se pueden encontrar dentro del complejo incluyen Wat Preah Keo Morokat, donde se realizan las ceremonias reales, y estupas como King Ang Doung Stupa, el lugar de enterramiento del ex rey Norodom. (Abierto de 8.00 a 10.30 y de 14.00 a 17.00 horas. Las mujeres deben cubrirse los hombros y tanto hombres como mujeres deben cubrirse las rodillas).
El museo alberga una de las colecciones de arte jemer más grandes del mundo, que incluye esculturas, cerámicas jemer, bronces y objetos etnográficos. Su colección incluye más de 14.000 artículos, desde tiempos prehistóricos hasta períodos antes, durante y después del Imperio Khmer, que en su apogeo se extendió desde Tailandia, a través de la actual Camboya, hasta el sur de Vietnam. El Museo Nacional de Camboya está al lado de la Real Universidad de Bellas Artes y se encuentra en el lado oeste del museo. Los edificios del museo, inspirados en la arquitectura del templo jemer, se construyeron entre 1917 y 1924, el museo se inauguró oficialmente en 1920 y fue renovado en 1968.

Wonderful tour. I went to the royal palace and National museum The guide and driver were early for pick up but that was fine as I was ready. The guide certainly knew Cambodias history which was great

The Royal Palace obviously does not enter the part of the palace where the current king resides. In addition, the Silver Pagoda is always open to visitors. The present palace dates from the 20th century. Several places to visit , such as the Throne Hall, the Kemarin Palace , the Hor Samritvimean Pavilion , the Napoleon III Pavilion, the Chan Chaya Pavilion , in the center of the courtyard , the famous silver pagoda paved with 5329 silver tiles of 1.125 , then the famous Emerald Buddha which is in jade , then a life-sized gold Buddha weighing 90 kg, it is inlaid with 2086 diamonds, the largest in the center of the tiara represents 25 carats. For the National Museum, huge red building, built by the French in the 1920s , a winged Garuda of 2 meters in stone, many stelae engraved in Sanskrit and ancient Khmer , many Buddhas lying, standing, sitting. Many jewels, many reliefs and lintels. Very nice visit.
The Royal Palace and surrounding grounds were beautiful and our tour guide was fantastic- enlightening first hand experiences of important recent events In Cambodia’s history.

Wonderful morning tour. My guide, Syphat was very nice and considerate with my needs. As the Palace is still closed, Genocide museum was the initial alternative...which I was reluctant to go. I told that Syphat and he immediately came up another plan, which worked out perfect for me. He was punctual every step of the way. He even went extra effort to help me get SIM card in the middle of tour...and still managed to drop me off at the hotel on the dot at the end of the tour!
