Itinerary
Beginning with your hotel pickup in Zagreb at 8am, you will depart the city and ride on a 1.5 hour long drive to Rastoke.
Once we cross river Sava, we are officially exiting Zagreb and starting our adventure.
We will pass through the city that sits on four rivers, Karlovac. It is the only city in Croatia where we know the specific date it was created, because it had a defensive purpose against the Ottomans. Through the relaxing drive you will learn a bit about the city and its history through the various war conflicts of the region.
Rastoke, a watermill village situated where the blue-green water of river Slunjčica flows into the Korana river. similar natural phenomena are occurring as at the Plitvice Lakes. Rastoke is sometimes known as "the Small Lakes of Plitvice", and is connected to the Plitvice Lakes by the Korana river. Rastoke is a place of autochthonous ecologic and ethnographic significance due to its symbiosis of natural and civilizational features. This small village holds a rich history since Napoleon himself visited the village and even led construction on a bridge in the village. At Rastoke you will have some free time to explore the small village and marvel at the nature wonderland all around.
A culuturally rich town surrounded by nature. The natural wonderland is only trumped by the magnificent old fort built by the powerful Frankopan dinasty.
Our tour guide will take you on a trip through the nature wonderland of the UNESCO-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park, a forest reserve which is one of the most exciting locations in Croatia. You will explore the forest landscape on foot while learning about the park and its long history. On your hike, you will see all sorts of wildlife and marvel at fantastic waterfalls.
UNESCO listed Plitvice Lakes National Park is a forest reserve that is one of the most exciting locations in Croatia. This wonder of nature has 16 lakes in total, split into the 12 Upper Lakes and the four lower lakes. The location is also marked by magnificent waterfalls that leave you mouth agape. You will explore this forest landscape on foot while learning about the park and its long history. On your hike you will see all sorts of wildlife and marvel at the fantastic waterfalls. The first part of the tour will take us around the 4 Lower Lakes of the park. Just being near these lakes will give any nature lover a massive boost of energy.
Starting our hike first thing we see is highest waterfall in Plitvice National Park and also the highest waterfall in Croatia, the Great Waterfall. This 78 meter tall waterfall stuns with its beauty and just one look at it is worth the price of admission. Its beauty in the summer is only trumped by the winter time when the entire waterfall freezes and forms a perfect ice sculpture.
After the lunch break our paths will lead to the twelve remaining lakes of the park. There we can enjoy the second largest waterfall in Plitvice National Park called Veliki Prštavac, it is located on lake Galovac. The waterfall is about 28 meters high and it offers some of the most beautiful views in the entire national park. Our journey will also take us to Prošćansko lake which is the last lake that we will see.
After hiking for a couple of hours you will be treated by a panoramic train ride back to the station. This will offer you another chance to view the beauty of the National Park. When we get off the train we have another 20 minutes of hiking, but this time from a totally different perspective of the park. This hike is the perfect way to end the walking tour.
One of the two largest and deepest lakes in the park will be our next stop. Lake Kozjak offers marvelous views and it will serve as the perfect place for our lunch break. After our lunch we will take a boat ride on one of the numerous electric eco-friendly boats that operates on lake Kozjak.
