We had an amazing time at this cooking class, was one of the best things we did in Yangshuo! We started off with the market tour was very interesting and Hanz explained everything to us well giving us insights into the daily life of the locals. The cooking was really enjoyable , we made fried tofu and beer fish, a local dish. Hanz was very chatty and hospitable, making the experience more than cooking. We enjoyed some good laughs and happy water with him.

I think this was my favorite and non usual food class that I made. Hans and his brother are really welcoming you into their world. The food is really good but above that you will learn so much about Chinese culture and mindset. Thank you again !!!

Great way to spend half a day in Yangshuo - and to enjoy a meal you prepared yourself. Hans is full of energy and a good laugh! Lots of smiling and good chats. If you're looking for a small, personalised English-speaking cooking class we can recommend this one! Learned a lot (not just about cooking), and had a lot of fun. Groups tend to be small (2-8?) so it's very hands-on. Like many, it starts with a trip to a nearby market for ingredients - a very fun experience. Love a market, always learn so much about the town and food from that specific region. Flexible options for eg vegetarian (and got to cook some of my favourite foods we found while at the market eg eggplant, tofu) A must do while in the Yangshuo

We had a wonderful time at the local market with Hans and then a hands-on lesson preparing and trying tasty local dishes in his family's courtyard kitchen and dining area. It was fun and educational, and he and his brother were super hosts. It's a rare chance to taste authentic culture and food with enthusiastic and engaging hosts!

We had an excellent cooking class with Hans during our stay in Yangshuo. He taught us how to prepare beer fish, tofu, chicken, and smashed cucumber, while sharing plenty of useful cooking tips. He was knowledgeable, funny, and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The visit to the local market beforehand was also interesting and gave us a better understanding of the ingredients. After the class, we drank tea with Hans and his brother, who is a painter and calligrapher. He introduced us to the basics of Chinese calligraphy and explained its history and techniques, which was a wonderful addition to the day.

Hans was an amazing guide! I loved both the market trip and the cooking class as well. The fish in the end turned out delicious. We especially loved that his brother was there as well, who is an artist specialising on traditional chinese painting. We also bought a picture for ourselves that he did in front of us from scratch.

We had a very nice tour with Hans, starting with shopping all ingredients in the local market along with introduction to various products and how things work out in the market place, and a tasting of the local happy water. :-) Hans will ask if you are ok with going through the butcher shops where fish, snails, toads and various meats are picked and prepared. If you have things you do or don’t want to try just tell Hans. After shopping we went to Hans kitchen located in his private backyard, where we started with a the ceremony with his brother. In the kitchen Hans gave a thorough explanation on how to prepare all ingredients, and especially how to use the wok. We had fried tofu, beer fish with various vegetables ( local specialty ), smashed cucumber, steamed chicken with happy water, garlic and chilli. After cooking we had our lunch in the yard together with Hans and his brother, who also brought some extra dishes to the table and a couple of friends, During cooking and eating we had lot of fun with Hans talking about family everyday life etc. The food was delicious especially the beer fish, drinking happy water is a part of the experience, but if you don’t like it just ask for water og tea. Afterthoughts, next time I would challenge myself with more special local ingredients, on the other hand all ingredients we used are common so it’s easy to replicate the dishes at home. Have fun
