Itinerary
This is our departure point. Travelers are picked up from their hotel in San Ignacio and meet their licensed guide, who gives an overview of the day’s adventure.
Cross the Mopan River on a traditional, manually cranked ferry — a unique experience before driving one mile uphill into the reserve.
Explore one of Belize’s most impressive archaeological sites. Guides share the history of Maya rulers, rituals, and daily life as travelers walk through plazas and temples. Climb the 130-foot pyramid for sweeping jungle views that extend into Guatemala on clear days. It’s the second-tallest structure in Belize and a highlight of the site. See intricate carvings, ceremonial areas, and the ball court while learning about Maya astronomy, trade, and cultural traditions.
After our stop for a freshly prepared Belizean lunch, with vegetarian and vegan options available on request. Arrive at the cave tubing site after a scenic 1.5-hour drive. Your guide provides helmets, life vests, and tubes, followed by a safety briefing. Take a guided 25–30 minute hike through lush rainforest with a few river crossings, learning about the plants and wildlife along the way. Begin the tubing adventure by swimming into the entrance, then floating through limestone passages with glittering stalactites and stalagmites. Hear ancient stories and beliefs about Xibalba, the Maya underworld, as you drift through cathedral-like chambers and sacred altars hidden inside the caves.
After the cave tubing adventure, use the changing rooms and restrooms at the parking lot before you relax on the return drive to San Ignacio, where travelers are dropped off at their hotel to conclude the tour.

We had an amazing adventure today with Anselmo at Ruwa. We first went to incredible Xunantunich ruins and got a 5 star full history tour. Afterwards we stopped and had an excellent traditional Belizean lunch before a short drive to Nohoch Ch’en Caves for tubing. Mind blown by the beauty and once again Anselmo’s vast knowledge of the history. He took excellent care of us and we highly recommend him and Ruwa.
Karen, these glowing words mean the world to us! We take pride in providing our clients with only the best. You mentioning a “5 start full history tour” thrills us immensely. Every time our clients express being mind blown with the beauty of Belize, it brings a huge smile to our faces - nothing means more than being complimented on how beautiful Belize truly is. We are glad you enjoyed the traditional Belizean lunch and that Anselmo took such good care of you - it has been our pride and joy to extend that to you. Let us know when you are here in Belize next time - we would be delighted to host you once more! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
