WW2&UNDERGROUND discovering the unknown EXTENDED TOUR

Description
This tour takes you into the turbulent past of Rijeka, and not just anywhere but exactly to the locations where that past took place. The tour of historical sites is also a trip to nature, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. The focal point of the tour is a series of under- and above-ground fortresses that were built in the 30s of the 20th century as the defense of the then borders. With their construction and location, the fortresses are a masterpiece of military engineering of their era. At the same time, the route leading to them is equally interesting and historically important. The tour ends in the entrance hall of the unfinished underground fortress San Giovanni with socializing, a glass of wine and screening of a short film about the restoration of Rijeka after the Second World War. If this feels too much for you, check out our offer and book our basic WW2&UNDERGROUND DISCOVERING THE HISTORY OF MILITARY FORTS AND BATTLES. WE ARE TAKING YOU TO DEEP TOURS.

This was a great experience capping off our visit to Rijeka. Eli our guide could not have been better. She knew a lot about the history of the bunkers, of the region, and of Croatia. She was very easy to talk with and was happy to engage with us. She even gave us a great recommendation for lunch. Eli was excellent! The tour was interesting consisting of visits to two bunkers along with a few historic area stops. A really cool experience for our family and highly recommended!
The tour was AMAZING! Having Josip as our historical tour guide couldn’t have been any better, a wealth of knowledge, presented in a relaxed and friendly manner which was great. We really enjoyed spending the morning with him. The second bunker on the extended tour was incredible to experience, and the wine tasting element was a very nice touch! We highly recommend this tour for anyone who is visiting Rijeka and is interested in WWII history!
Great experience with unique locations. If you're in the area highly recommended this adventure. Guide was enthusiastic approach was great.
This was a private tour for my family and it was so informative from the beginning. We first met with our Tour guide where she provided helmets for protection and told us what we would be doing. She drove through the town and made some pit stops to tell us about the history of Croatia. When we went to the underground tunnels, it was so interesting and we got to see some beautiful views as well in the mountains. Last part was a stimulation followed by a movie with some complimentary drinks included, safe to say we learned and enjoyed all at the same time. Highly recommend this tour then roaming the town and beaches!
We learned a lot about the history of Rijeka during the World Wars and visited various bunker systems. Our guide was very friendly and tried, but unfortunately could not answer all our questions.
We had two families of 4 (all adults/young adults). We really appreciated Sarah and her enthusiasm for the tunnels and caves around Croatia. The WWII tunnels were truly fascinating! We learned how & why they were constructed and spent an hour or so walking through and discovering how electricity and water worked, saw many alcoves where soldiers waited for the enemy, and how everything was strategically made/positioned to best live & survive while living underground. If you don’t like the dark and get claustrophobic, not sure you’d enjoy the tour. We ended the morning with going into another cave to demonstrate what it felt like during air raids. We also saw a short film about Rijeka’s port & how they rebuilt after it was decimated in the war (with glasses of wine). Definitely recommend; especially if you are a history buff!
The extended military fortresses tour was excellent, visiting some off-the-beaten track spots. Comes complete with hire of hard hats and head-torches. Thanks Sara for the explanations, smooth driving and translations!
On Saturday,September 7 we met Prof Josip at the Liberation Monument. He was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He took us into the WWII bunkers and then drove us to a second underground cave. We really enjoyed the day and would highly recommend.
Great experience! We had a great time, the Guide was very good and competent, very nice even the other people who were with us. The tur was beautiful and suggestive, we ended the experience with a nice bottle of wine, highly recommended.
Awesome tour above and under the ground. Definitely recommended for everyone slightly interested in history or construction!
