Stockholm’s Gamla Stan (Old Town) to learn about the events and people that shaped the history of World War II in Sweden and Scandinavia. Your Private Guide will meet you by the Lars Johan Hierta Monument, which is dedicated to a Swedish journalist who contributed to free press in Sweden. The guide will provide you with the historical context behind Swedish neutrality at the beginning of WWII, and how it has changed during the course of the conflict.
You will learn about the responses of the Swedish royal family, government and church as you admire the Royal Palace, Storkyrkan (Cathedral) and Parliament House. You will also find out how the war influenced the prestigious Nobel Prize awards. You will also follow the Remembrance Path in Berzelii Park and hear the heroic story of Raoul Wallenberg to rescue ten of thousands of Jewish people from the Holocaust.
Visit the Army Museum. This war museum explores more than 500 years of wartime and peacetime in Sweden, offering an insight into the living conditions for soldiers, their families and the general population. One of the exhibitions is dedicated to Raoul Wallenberg, and there is also a display of historical documents, military uniforms, weapons and trophies. A must see for history buffs!
