Windsor, Stonehenge & Winchester Private Tour - A Terrible Tour Experience - Stay Away!

The tour operator completely misrepresented this all-day, 12-hour tour of Windsor, Stonehenge, and Winchester. We do not recommend this tour to anyone! We were told by the tour operator that, "You will have one highly experienced driver‑guide for the day. All our driver‑guides are extremely knowledgeable, with many years of experience covering these exact locations. They provide in‑depth historical commentary, local insights, and cultural context throughout the journey. As history professors, you will be able to ask detailed and probing questions, and your driver‑guide will be able to engage with you at a high level." Nothing promised in this statement came to be true. Our driver did not know he was to be the guide and admitted he was not a guide and that he knew nothing about the three locations we were visiting and - honestly - had never even been inside Windsor Castle or Westminster Cathedral. (The driver was very nice and felt terrible for us and cannot be held accountable for what occurred on our tour.) Additionally, when arranging this private tour, I informed the operator that my wife has celiac and thus, must eat gluten free. Prior to and following the booking of this $1,473.78US tour, the tour operator stated that, "You will have time for a proper lunch stop, usually after Windsor Castle or in Winchester town. We will ensure your wife’s gluten‑free dietary requirements are fully accommodated and will select a suitable restaurant offering safe and enjoyable options." The driver was not informed of this need and was unable to point us to a gluten free restaurant. We walked through the town but all the restaurants were full and none of the menus we saw offered gluten free options. This tour operator promised us everything we had asked for and delivered only a driver. We did not have a professional guide, we did not have private tours, and 9-hours into a 12-hour day, we did not have any dinner. We came away from this experience angry and disappointed to have been duped out of our money. Frankly, we had a terrible time and we cannot and would not recommend this tour operator to anyone. To be very clear, we have taken many tours through Viator and have always been happy with them. We will continue to take Viator tours in the future. The tour operator for this tour was a third party vendor that Viator connected us with. So - beware of this particular operator offering , "Windsor, Stonehenge, Winchester Day Long Private Tours."
