Your Wilpattu National Park safari begins with hotel pickup from Negombo by an English-speaking chauffeur and transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to the park entrance. From there, you will board your safari jeep and explore Wilpattu’s tropical wilderness, known for its dry forests, scrublands, coastal belt, and natural villus. During the safari, you may encounter Sri Lankan elephants, spotted deer, barking deer, wild pigs, sambhar, jackals, water buffalo, and the elusive leopard. The park is also home to colourful butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, and many aquatic birds, making it ideal for nature lovers and wildlife photography. After the safari, you will return to your vehicle and be transferred back to your hotel in Negombo.

It takes approximately 3 hours to get to Wilpattu National Park from Negombo. The park will open at 7:00 am. Once you get there you will be going on a 3 hour jeep safari. Before you go in you will have the chance to look through some of the informational leaflets at the entrance, and possibly even purchase a booklet on the wildlife - if you are interested. Wilpattu National Park was started in 1905 as a sanctuary for wildlife, and was upgraded into a National Park in 1938. With a size of 1,317 square kilometers, it’s one of the oldest and largest national parks in Sri Lanka. It hosts a variety of vegetation, over 30 species of mammals, and several tens of species of birds and reptiles.
