At Riffort, visitors can admire the impressive 19th-century fortifications and learn about their role in the island's defense system. The fort was built by the Dutch in 1828 and was used to protect the city from pirates and other invaders. Fort Amsterdam is located in the heart of Willemstad and is one of the most significant historical sites on the island. Built by the Dutch in the 17th century, the fort played a crucial role in the island's history as a hub for trade and commerce in the Caribbean. One of the most notable features of Fort Amsterdam is the nearby Governor's Palace, which serves as the official residence of the governor of Curacao.
Kura Hulanda is a vibrant and historic neighborhood that is well worth exploring. The area is home to colorful architecture, lively streets, and some of the island's best restaurants and bars. Travelers can stroll through the neighborhood's narrow streets and soak up the unique atmosphere that makes Curacao such a special place.
The Queen Emma Bridge, also known as the "Swinging Old Lady," is a pontoon bridge that connects the neighborhoods of Punda and Otrobanda in Willemstad. The bridge was built in 1888 and has since become one of the most iconic landmarks on the island. Walking across the Queen Emma Bridge is an exhilarating experience that offers stunning views of Willemstad's colorful buildings and bustling harbor. As you walk across the bridge, you can feel it sway gently beneath your feet, adding to the sense of adventure and excitement.
The heart with locks are a charming and romantic addition to the island's cultural landscape. They offer a fun and lighthearted way for couples to celebrate their love and create lasting memories on the island. If you're looking for a unique and romantic experience on Curacao, be sure to visit the hearts with locks at Breedestraat, Punda and leave your own mark on this colorful and vibrant island.
Handelskade is an iconic waterfront strip that showcases the colorful and charming buildings that have become synonymous with Curacao's architecture. The row of pastel-colored, Dutch colonial-style buildings lining the canal creates a stunning and photogenic scene that is often featured on postcards and travel brochures. Many of the buildings along Handelskade house shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants, offering visitors the opportunity to browse local crafts, enjoy a refreshing drink, or sample delicious local cuisine. This creates a dynamic and lively ambiance, with bustling activity and a diverse range of options to suit various tastes and interests.
Breedestraat is a vibrant and historic street located in the heart of Punda, the charming and colorful neighborhood of Willemstad. It is one of the main thoroughfares in the city and offers a wonderful blend of history, culture, shopping, and dining experiences. One of the prominent features of Breedestraat is its picturesque architecture. The street is lined with brightly colored colonial-style buildings that date back to the 18th century. These charming facades showcase the Dutch influence on the island and are a delight to explore and photograph.
Wilhelminaplein is located in the heart of Punda. The square is named after Queen Wilhelmina, who ruled the Netherlands during the early 20th century and is revered as a symbol of Dutch national pride. Visitors to Wilhelminaplein can see a statue of the queen, which was erected in her honor in 1955. At the center of this plaza is the life-sized C U R A C A O sign. This is one of the most popular photo opportunities in the town.
Brionplein is named after a famous local hero, Pedro Luis Brion, who played a key role in Venezuela's struggle for independence. The square is located on the waterfront and offers stunning views of Willemstad's harbor and the iconic Queen Emma Bridge. Brionplein features the national flag of Curacao.

A wonderful preview of local cuisine and a knowledgeable tour guide with lots of valuable insights into the local culture.
It was my pleasure! :)
The Private 3-Hour Willemstad Culinary: Foodie Tour was truly exceptional! We love food tours as a way to connect with a place, and this one exceeded all expectations. Our guide, Helvig, was phenomenal — a third-generation Curaçao local who shared her deep knowledge of the island’s history, culture, and cuisine with honesty and passion. She gave us an insightful, balanced perspective on Curaçao’s past and present, all while leading us through the beautiful streets of Willemstad, pointing out stunning architecture and its cultural significance. The food stops were diverse, delicious, and reflective of the island’s rich multicultural roots. We ended the tour feeling full — not just in our stomachs, but in our hearts and minds, too. Helvig brought the spirit of the island to life, and we’re already dreaming of our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an immersive and meaningful cultural experience. Thank you, Helvig!
I’m so happy to learn that you enjoyed your time with me so much. Please know that it was my pleasure to be your host and I hope to welcome you back one day soon!
Helvig was absolutely wonderful. This food tour felt like a casually stroll through stroll through Willemstad with a good friend. The selected food stops served delicious local food and cocktails. All the while getting some info and history about the island and the city. We enjoyed our time with Helvig and absolutely do recommend this food tour!
Thank you for this wonderful feedback; it was my pleasure to meet you and to show you around!
This was a fantastic food walking tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and very nice. I would definitely recommend. Remember to wear comfortable shoes as this is a walking food tour. You won't be disappointed in the experience.
Thank you for your kind words; it was my pleasure to be your guide :)
Not only did we have amazing local food and beer, we learned so much about the island. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who is an adventurous foodie!
Thank you so much for your kind words. It was our pleasure to have you as our guests to take around :)
Helvig was great! Friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our time. Private. So much food. Would definitely book with her again!
It was my pleasure having you on the foodie tour. It was great chatting with you. Hope to see you back soon!
Helvig has such a vast knowledge of Curacao, so not only did we eat incredible Curacao food, but we learned some history along the way as we walked to four different restaurants! We highly recommend this foodie tour!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the Curacao foodie tour with Helvig. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for more culinary adventures in the future!
Our tour guide was so knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Her food choices were authentic and she explained the process and how each dish became a traditional one.
Thank you for the fantastic feedback! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the tour with our knowledgeable and friendly guide. We look forward to hosting you again!
Five stars isn’t nearly enough to describe our experience. Imagine an old dear friend taking you around and sharing with you the experience of their culture and favorite eating spots. If I had to describe us it would be as “real foodies without the attitude”. On the culinary side we could not have been happier. The first stop, at the restaurant where the ad photo was taken was one of the best meals we’ve had - so fresh and innovative - no way to describe it adequately as it has to be experienced. The rest of the stops were also superlative. During our walking adventure we learned so much about the culture and history of Curaçao. The one thing that was even better than the food was our conversation and interaction with Helvig. The other review posted is spot-on and there just aren’t words that exist that adequately express how much we enjoyed our time on this tour.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our Foodie Tour. We are thrilled to hear that your experience was nothing short of exceptional. Your description of feeling like an old friend was showing you around warms our hearts, as this is exactly the kind of intimate and authentic experience we strive to provide. We're delighted to know that we hit the mark in showcasing the culinary delights of Curaçao, especially that unforgettable meal at our first stop! Your kind words are greatly appreciated, and they inspire us to continue delivering top-notch experiences to our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on another tour in the future.
The review I write will not do the experience justice but I will try my best. My husband and I are big foodies and always try to find unique food experiences wherever our travels may take us. This one was over the top! First off, Helvig is in fact... amazing. She is a great conversationalist and ridiculously familiar with the history of the island as she is multi-generational in that regard. She is also very humorous if you are inclined to allow her to be so. I would have attached pictures as I do in fact have many, however, that would spoil the surprises that await you should you be fortunate enough to book this tour. Thanks to her and the experience we WILL visit Curacao again which was ZERO CHANCE prior to the tour - due to a horrible resort experience. It is my understanding that she has different tours with some being without the food experience. Whatever the experience is..... just BOOK IT!!! Bonnie and Clyde Greenville, SC
Thank you so much for your kind words, the pleasure was all mine. Hope to see you soon again!
