Chennai surprises most visitors. This city of 10 million people somehow contains a crocodile bank, a national park and the largest zoo in India within its limits. The Madras Crocodile Bank, founded by legendary conservationist Romulus Whitaker, is home to over 2,500 reptiles. At the Snake Venom Centre you watch venom being extracted from live snakes to produce the anti-venom vaccines that save thousands of lives across India every year. The crocodile enrichment programme will completely change how you think about these animals. Vandalur Zoo is India's first public zoo and its largest, spread over 600 acres with over 1,500 species including 46 on the endangered list. The nocturnal animals section, butterfly house and walk through aviary are the highlights. Guindy National Park sits entirely inside the city limits of Chennai, where blackbucks, jackals and spotted deer graze within sight of apartment buildings. We will head to Guindy National Park, a haven for wild life right in the middle of the chaos of Chennai! The park is home to blackbucks, jackals, deer, snakes, tortoises and butterflies. Guindy National Park plays crucial role in in-situ and ex-situ conservation of wild life.
Adjacent to Guindy National Park is the Snake Park. Here guests will get to meet 23 species of snakes, 7 species of crocodiles, 3 species of turtles and 6 species of large Indian lizards.
Chennai Crocodile park, set up by the renowned conservationist Romulus Whitaker, is an amazing experience. The park is home to more than 2500 reptiles including Jaws III its most famous resident and one of India’s largest salt water crocodiles. Guests get to see is the Snake Venom centre where you can observe a demonstration of venom extraction which is used for making anti-venom vaccines. Crocodile enrichment is the other highlight of this experience where these reptiles are made to exercise and play for their physical and mental well being
We visit Arignar Anna Zoological Gardens India’s first public Zoo located in Vandalur. Spread over 600 acres this Zoo is also the largest in India. There are more than 1500 wild species including 46 from the endangered list. Some of the highlights of this tour would be the butterfly house, walk through aviary, serpentarium, primate house and world of nocturnal animals.

- The mentioned itinerary is offered on Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun. On Monday the Crocodile Bank is closed and hence the itinerary will be Zoo, Guindy Park and Snake Park. On Tuesdays the Zoo and Guindy Park will be closed so we will do Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary and Crocodile Bank

Excellent service and a good agenda for a day trip in Chennai. This is a good tour for families, and adults too to see a lot of different animals.
I was impressed by the attentiveness of our guide, Natarajan, and enjoyed the tour even more! I really enjoyed the Wildlife Preserve and Takhini Hot Spring tour.
Great tour of Chennai's wildlife places. The tour allows yo to do 4 places in a day easily, seeing a great variety of animals. Natarajan was a great guide, friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend to anyone interested in animals.
Natarajan my guide was fantastic, I was driven to each park I visited by our driver who was also friendly. Natarajan briefed me before each park and the history. As a huge fan of herpetology this was fantastic seeing the snakes of India. Photo of the day was seeing a white tiger! A really excellent trip
Ganesh was awesome. He helped us navigate stores as well as get all our tickets for the days activities! We had special requests for lunch due to allergies which he gladly honored these requests. He also didn’t take us to any shops where people try to sell us stuff that we truly didn’t want. We had a special request for a special item to take home and he negotiated for us and even got us extra items to give to friends. He was truly awesome and very accommodating! I would most definitely recommend a tour with Ganesh!
Very nice trip to the zoo in Chennai. We had very nice authentic Indian lunch and also a very interesting time in the snake park.
This guided tour takes you to a zoo, an urban national park, and a reptile farm. While the city location means the animals are in captivity, one of the things you will learn from each location is that India is working to preserve it's wildlife heritage. My personal favorite was the reptile facility. Watching the workers there handle live cobras and extract venom for making antivenom was hair raising. The snakes are returned to the wild after a few draws. Meanwhile the lizard collection is unlike anything I have seen, and it was noted on one enclosure that some of these lizards are placed in the wild to help replenish endangered populations. My guide Raj was highly fluent in English, quite friendly, and took us to a restaurant that served a very tasty South Indian lunch. A day well spent.
