The Bailey House was built on the site where Kahekili, the last ruling chief of Maui, had his royal compound. In 1833, one of the first western-style houses in Wailuku was built here with koa wood and lava rock. The museum houses over 100 landscape oil paintings that Edward Bailey became known for. There are also rare artifacts from pre-Western contact, like ancient Hawaiian tools, weapons, and a carved statue of the demigod Kamapua’a that was recovered from an upcountry cave where it was hidden for well over a century. There is even a replica of the Hokule’a, the Polynesian-style sailing canoe that made a voyage around the world, navigating by the stars. The gift shop is full of handcrafted artisan items and books on Hawaii’s history. It’s a great place to pick up unique gifts or souvenirs.
One of the most well-known places in Maui - along with Haleakala and Road to Hana. A definite must-visit when traveling to Maui!
An awesome place to visit and learn about how sugarcane and pineapples are grown locally here in Maui.
A popular aquarium located in Wailuku Maui... and one of our first stops!
Along an unassuming dirt path, you’ll find giant boulders inscribed with carved images. The Olowalu Petroglyphs, known as Pu’u Kilea, were a form of communication for Native Hawaiians. Instead of developing a writing system, ancient Polynesians used hula, oral accounts of events, and carved images like the petroglyphs you’ll see to tell stories. The Hawaiian name for these carvings is “Ki’i Pohaku” or stone images.
Make a quick stop for some snacks. If you’re looking for some ono mini pies with Hawaiian flavors like coconut cream or macadamia nut with pineapple, check out Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop. This local shop has sandwiches, salads, and burgers as well.
A mile-long beach and is most popular and known as one of the best beaches in Maui. It's located along a multitude of hotels and can get quite crowded.
Located near the Kapalua resort area, this half-mile hike follows the rocky shoreline and offers beautiful views of the bay. It is named Dragon’s Teeth Trail after the jagged lava rocks near the shoreline that, from a distance, look like the teeth of a dragon.
A beautiful, wide, white sand beach located in Lahaina. An awesome beach for lunch picnics and occasionally boogie boarding!
Also known as "Mokule'ia Beach", Slaughterhouse Beach is a secluded little white sand beach.
During the summer months, divers and snorkelers enjoy this marine-life conservation district where tropical fish and turtles flock to the warm waters. The beach is rocky and not especially great for swimming or sunbathing, but if you want to see tropical fish, you’ve come to the right place! The bay itself is the real draw. There are two parking areas for this beach and each requires a short hike before you can access the bay. We recommend driving down to the second parking area, which is larger. You’ll see porta-potties in the lot; don’t let that discourage you. The walk to the water takes you through a beautiful jungle trail.
A quick little hike down to an incredible blowhole.
A 45 minute hike to a stunning view of Maui's west coast. A definite must-visit when coming to Maui!
Olivine Pools is a beautiful place with tidepools. Although it's beauty might make you think otherwise, but it is very dangerous and un-predictable - so be cautious.
An absolutely stunning bay that MUST be on your list! An incredible sight to see and has some awesome banana bread and shave ice.
This beautiful art gallery, with amazing views of Kahakuloa, the mountains, and the ocean, features the work of over 100 local artists. From Hawaii-themed art to handcrafted island-inspired jewelry, Karen Lei’s Gallery is a great place to pick up a few souvenirs to bring home. They have restrooms inside and also sell ice cream! Sometimes, you’ll find food trucks parked outside.
An awesome viewpoint, located here is also the Waihe'e Ridge Trail is a 4-mile trail featuring stunning views of West Maui mountains.

This tour really surprised us. It was a nice day tour around the side of the island that the tours can't take you. Whale watching spots, blowhole, history locations, local eats, and of course shopping are pointed out. The second part of the drive is a bit tricky because of the one lane blind turns on the side of the slopes, but you are warned by the narrator before about turning back. The GPS keeps track of you and alerts of things to check out. Definitely worth the few bucks and an afternoon.
Aloha, West Maui has a different feel from the main resort areas, so it’s always good to hear when that side of the island surprises people. There’s a lot packed into that loop, from whale spots to the blowhole to those small local stops. And you’re right about that back stretch. Those one-lane sections and blind turns aren’t for everyone, which is why the tour gives a heads-up before committing. Sounds like you handled it well and made a full afternoon out of it. Mahalo for exploring with Shaka Guide 🤙
It was awesome! He was knowledgeable and entertaining. We learned alot of fun Hawaian history and heard stories of some people who were here many years ago! We all loved it!!
That’s wonderful to hear — mahalo for sharing! We're so glad the guide made your trip both fun and educational. If you have any favorite story or moment from the tour that stood out, we’d love to hear it!
We are glad we did this tour. It guided us to areas that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. We liked the casual pace with a self guilted tour. We found the ‘Ioa Valley to be so beautiful. We stopped at the Kepaniwai Park. Such a beautiful little park next to a babbling brook.
We're so glad you enjoyed the tour and got to explore places like ʻIao Valley and Kepaniwai Park—such serene and special spots! The beauty of a self-guided tour really is being able to go at your own pace and discover hidden gems along the way. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Can I give this ZERO? Horrible. Can’t download the app even though we purchased it. Can’t get ahold of customer service. Total waste of money.
We're really sorry to hear about your experience—that's definitely not what we want for any of our customers. We’d love the chance to make things right. Driving along a narrow windy road was a little tense but the view was spectacular. Very informative narration.
Mahalo for the awesome review. Don't forget to tell all your friends about Shaka guide and let them know they are missing out on the best Aloha experience 🤙😍🤙
Family and I had a great time with this audio tour. We have 16 year old twins who were following along the whole time and also enjoying the stories and information. If I had to pick on one thing that would make this better. There were a couple of times where the announcement for the turn or parking spot came right at the moment when you needed to stop. This is driving at regular speeds or even slower than posted speeds as some areas of the roads require reduced speeds. So a better heads up as to where the turns or parking spots are would make this tour that much better. Will definitely keep an eye out for more Shaka guide tours.
Thank you for your positive review! We're glad that you're finding our app useful and easy to navigate, and we appreciate your support.
This worked out nicely for us. All the guided tours were book but this ended up being better because we were able to pick and choose which places we wanted to stop and see and which ones to skip

Great audio tour! Very interesting and easy to use. Definitely well worth the money instead of trying to navigate yourself. The drive in the mountains could be very difficult for some people so be aware of that before heading up the mountain.
