Itinerary
The opening moments of this historical tour transport you back to some of the most significant and tragic shipping disasters in maritime history, as your guide reveals the deep and enduring connections between Liverpool and these world‑changing events. Through compelling storytelling, you will discover why the city’s past is inseparable from its seafaring heritage and how its role on the world stage was shaped by both triumph and tragedy.
Your guided walking tour will take a relaxed and unhurried pace as you promenade along the magnificent Liverpool Waterfront, flanked on all sides by striking architecture and some of the city’s most iconic buildings.
Donned by the city’s two famous Liver Birds—and the age‑old question remains: which is Bella, and which is Bertie?—you will pause before the magnificent, Grade I‑listed Royal Liver Building, one of Liverpool’s most iconic and architecturally celebrated landmarks.
Completing this world‑famous waterfront, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building stand proudly alongside their neighbour, forming a magnificent architectural backdrop that frames the city with elegance and historic grandeur.
Stroll passed Canning Dock, recently transformed through a significant renovation that powerfully unites its 18th‑century maritime heritage with the striking contemporary architecture that now defines its surroundings.
Your tour will visit Liverpool’s most renowned and historically significant dock: the Royal Albert Dock. This iconic quadrangular dock, lined with distinguished shops, cafés, and museums, stands as a testament to the city’s maritime legacy. Your guide will share vivid accounts of its rich history and heritage.
Located on the site of Liverpool's first dry dock here you will learn of the maritime history of Liverpool that is captured in the large water fountain, and you will be able to have a quick look down to through a port hole. Thomas Steers Way is also home to the oversized LIVERPOOL selfie sign for which the colours change to reflect the season or events throughout the year.
As your afternoon tea draws to a close, you may choose to return with your guide for the short walk back to the cruise terminal, or conclude your excursion here and enjoy some free time to explore the city independently—your guide will be happy to point you in the right direction—before making your own way back to the ship.
Step inside one of Liverpool’s most striking historic landmarks. Albion House, also known as the White Star Building or 30 James Street, stands proudly at the corner of James Street and The Strand, facing the world-famous Pier Head. Built between 1896 and 1898, its bold red-brick and white Portland stone façade earned it the affectionate local nickname the “streaky bacon” building. Once the world headquarters of the White Star Line—the company behind RMS Titanic—Albion House is rich with stories of Liverpool’s maritime past. Today, it provides the perfect setting for a delicious English afternoon tea on the top floor, where you can enjoy fabulous waterfront views, chat with your guide, ask questions, and relax over a traditional cream tea.

I met with the tour guide Jean who arrived early and as I was early it was great. We headed off and Jean gave me a great history of Liverpool. Jean is very knowledgeable about Liverpool and its history. We had a great time and plenty of opportunities for photos. After a great walking tour we went to the iconic White Star hotel for a lovely high tea to top off the tour. You can look in the room where the first class passengers for the titanic or other white star line ships would congregate to purchase there tickets. We then proceeded to the rooftop which affords a wonderful view over Liverpool towards the Mersey. We then enjoyed a lovely high tea before saying our goodbyes and I walked back to the cruise ship which was moored close by.
Thank you Maree for this lovely review. I really enjoyed showing you Liverpool and sharing afternoon tea with you in the Iconic White Star Line hotel once the headquarters of the White Star line owner of the Titanic and the building where the Famous ship was registered. I hope you had a lovely trip. Best wishes Purple tours
I would definitely recommend this tour led by Jean the lovely tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable about the city and makes the tour informative and fun. Although I have lived in Liverpool my whole life I still managed to learn and see new things about the city that I didn’t know about. The tour lasted approximately 1.5 hours with a delicious afternoon tea at the White Star Line Hotel. My highlight would be learning more about the 3 Graces and how the waterfront was such an important part of Liverpools history.
