Flamingos – Walvis Bay Lagoon The Walvis Bay Lagoon is a Ramsar-protected wetland and one of southern Africa’s most important birding sites. It’s home to thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos, as well as pelicans, avocets, and other migratory birds. The striking contrast of pink birds against the calm blue lagoon makes for breathtaking photo opportunities. Pink Lake – Salt Works, Walvis Bay Just outside Walvis Bay, the Pink Lake is a surreal sight created by natural salt pans and algae (Dunaliella salina) that thrive in high salinity. These algae give the water a vibrant pink hue, especially during hot, sunny days. The area is part of Namibia’s salt production industry and provides a unique contrast of industry and natural beauty.

Visiting these rare plants gives insight into Namibia’s prehistoric ecology and survival adaptation.

Overall it was a nice...

Overall it was a nice tour. The time of year we went there were not many flamingos to see (May). When we got to Dune 7 we were told to buy tickets but we had to remind them it indicated it was included in the tour. I had the print out and they honored it of course. The plant and the dessert were amazing to see. At the end we went in town and he took us to a place we could do some shopping and get a local beer. Overall it was a good tour Our guides English was just ok. But good enough. We got to see some amazing sights.

Pick up at the cruise...

Pick up at the cruise terminal was well arranged. Guide easy to find. Nice tour, but a few long somewhat boring parts. Unfortunately, the van malfunctioned, but a replacement was arranged fairly quickly. As a result, there was no time to see the famous flowers in the desert.

Blah

First of all this was listed as a private tour and it was NOT. Our driver/guide was pleasant and informative. However, toward the end on the way back to the ship due to unhappy clients on another tour our driver switched and we received a driver that only drived and talked loudly on the phone.
