Walking tour a Tropea

Itinerary

Pass by

Tropea is known throughout the world as the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Our walk will start from Largo San Michele, the beginning of the historic center. The intact historic center offers a characteristic setting, a labyrinth of narrow streets, Renaissance churches and noble palaces of yellow stones from the 18th and 19th centuries will make our walk a touch in the past. The panoramic views of the church of Santa Maria dell'Isola are also incomparable, scenically isolated on the top of a rock and the Norman cathedral. Our walk ends with an optional stop in one of the many shops selling typical products where you can taste the famous Tropea onion.

20 min

It was built around the 12th century by the Normans. It suffered many damages due to the multiple earthquakes and had numerous restorations. The interior houses the icon of the patron saint of the city, the Virgin of Romania and the Black Crucifix.

20 min

The church of Santa Maria dell'Isola rises on a beautiful island that is recognized as a symbol of Tropea in the world. Probably in the past since the islet was detached from the mainland it had become the destination of hermits.

A true favorite in Calabria.

Tropea is a magnificent town that fully deserves its reputation. Walking through its historic center is a true pleasure: charming flower-filled alleys, buildings full of character, stunning views of the sea, and a typically Italian atmosphere that we love. The town is remarkably clean and well-maintained, which makes the visit even more enjoyable. At every corner, you discover a new square, a lovely terrace, a craft shop, or a view worthy of a postcard. The atmosphere is warm and lively without being overwhelming, and you can feel all the authentic charm of southern Italy. An unmissable destination in Calabria for strolling, taking beautiful photos, and fully enjoying the Italian dolce vita. 🇮🇹🌺☀️📸

Educational walk through Tropea

We had a rather lovely educational walking tour in Tropea. The guide was so engaging, funny and kind! There was a bit of a mix-up about the timing, but we all worked together to sort it out.

Getting a good lay of the town

Our guide was Antonio and he was a wealth of knowledge in history of the area. He also gave a good overview of the region surrounding. CST TOURS also assisted us with transportation, as there was no taxis in the area to provide transportation to the marina, and they willingly offered without asking. To me, they offered beyond the call of duty customer service.

We walked away 60 euro the poorer. Beware!

Beware of this agency! We booked a walking tour of Tropea in English, I confirmed with the owner, two hours, in English. We turned up at the appointed time, to be told the tour was now two hours in BOTH Italian and English, so that they could include an Italian family who wanted to come. So far you could call it a misunderstanding, they claim all their tours are in both languages and that they'd do the Italian in the parts when the guide would otherwise be walking in silence (although nobody mentioned this when booking.) They could have refunded our 60 euro and we would have shrugged our shoulders and walked away. But no, not only would they not refund all the money we had handed them less than an hour before - after half an hour of arguing they offered us 50%, if we signed a handwritten release promising not to sue them. By this time we preferred to walk away rather than have anything further to do with this agency. I assume we were dealing with the owner (Giuseppe) as I'd be surprised if an employee would go to such ridiculous lengths to avoid handing back a measly 60 euro. You will see some good reviews on here relating to boat trips - in the main these are separate companies not affiliated with this agency, and you can book the same trips elsewhere. But other Google reviews suggest if something goes wrong, this agency will take your money and leave you high and dry - I read that others have lost far more substantial amounts of money. There's another travel agency opposite, and plenty others in town - the brochures may not be so glossy, but hopefully they won't leave such a bad taste.

Dear customer, We’re sorry that your experience with us didn’t meet your expectations. We’d like to clarify that all of our tours are conducted in both Italian and English when we have customers from both nationalities, as was the case when an Italian family joined the tour. In such cases, the guide alternates between the two languages during parts of the tour that don’t require detailed explanations. This is our standard operating procedure and is always communicated in advance, but we apologize if it wasn’t made clear at the time of booking. For those who prefer a more personalized experience, we also offer private tours at a cost of €250, where the guide is dedicated exclusively to your group. We regret that the situation wasn’t handled in the most satisfactory way and are sorry you felt treated unfairly. Giuseppe, the agency’s manager, made efforts to accommodate your needs after an initial misunderstanding, but we understand that the proposed solution was not acceptable. Please be assured that it was never our intention to cause any confusion or inconvenience. Regarding your comments, we want to emphasize that we are always open to dialogue and resolving any issues fairly. Our agency operates with professionalism and seriousness, as reflected in the many positive reviews we have received. We hope that despite this experience, you will have the opportunity to visit our beautiful Tropea again in the future and have a tour that meets your expectations. Kind regards, CST Tropea Team
