Description
You will arrive in a walled city that in 1680 brought the Portuguese crown, with military and civilian envoys, to watch the Spanish ships passing through Buenos Aires, looking for gold, silver and precious stones. You will know the precarious constructions of the time, its handmade roofs, its lanterns and stone streets with natural drains, in a city anchored in time and magically preserved with its military field gate, its drawbridge and its gunboats.

Dating from 1680, it was built with stones obtained from the coast, served as a military refuge and the wounded (field hospital) gardens and parish cemetery. St. John's Bastion. We will visit and learn about the entrance, the bell towers and the main altar.

Behind the ruins of the Monastery of San Francisco Xavier dating from 1680, the lighthouse of Cologne was built in 1753, which combines with that of Farallon Island, showing port and starboard for entry of ships in navigable area.

A very informative tour of Colonia, with historical insights tied to the steps you walk and buildings you walk by. You can imagine what life was like for the settlers and residents of history.

I’m glad I booked this tour over the one that can be booked from the ferry terminal building. There were so many people on those tours. This was much more intimate and our guide was so lovely and knowledgeable. She even helped me book a taxi with her trusted taxi driver so I wouldn’t miss my ferry. Highly recommend.
