Volcanic wine tasting party in Azores islands

Great wine tasting featuring Azorean wines and local specialties (sausages, cheese, bread, olives, and cake). A very exclusive experience, as the tasting was held just for the two of us. For a very reasonable €25, we were picked up from our accommodation and driven back afterwards. The drive itself turned into a small island tour with stunning viewpoints and plenty of great recommendations. Warm, welcoming, humorous, and delicious throughout. Absolutely recommended!

We had such a fantastic time! Six of us were traveling together and looking for an authentic wine tasting experience, and we couldn’t have found a more authentic experience than this was. Victor was a perfect host - warm, welcoming, and most accommodating, while relaying equal parts expert wine facts, history and culture of the island, and easy, intoxicating humor. We all felt as though we had, indeed, met a new friend. The experience details indicated that we would be served wine and snacks, but what we discovered upon arrival was so much more. The spread was plentiful, varied, and delicious! There were cheeses, meats, fruit, breads, homemade jams, a nice, mild tuna dip, and some freshly-roasted Portuguese sausage, all perfectly paired and tasty. All of this delicious food was followed by an absolutely exquisite Dona Amelia cake, of which we all enjoyed seconds! The wines were generously poured, and delicious. We were treated to both local, volcanic wines, as well as wines from the mainland. We even got to try the host’s own homemade fortified wine and the hostess’s own calamint liquor. We were very happy that we scheduled this experience early on in our trip, because Victor took the time to annotate a map of the island, complete with restaurant suggestions, and suggested foods to try at each spot. Already we have been to one, and thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. (We look forward to trying out the rest!) He also gave us suggestions for what to see during our time here in Terceira. If you are looking for a warm, friendly wine experience with gastronomic delights abound and the most welcome feeling you could have outside your own living room, book this!!!! You will not be disappointed!

This was an awesome experience! To be able to come into a local home and taste several different local wines is just the experience I was looking for! Victor and Helia were wonderful hosts. Victor is very knowledgeable about the local wineries and wine production of the area. He was very generous with the wines we tasted and the food he prepared was delicious. He also schooled us on Azores history and provided tips and recommendations for the other islands we were going to visit. I would highly recommend this experience.

I’ve taken many food and wine tours but this was my favorite by far! We learned so much about the island from Vitor. We toured a wine coop and had delicious wines. But the real highlight was visiting Vitor’s home. We sat out on his patio and enjoyed tasting different wines with wonderful tapas prepared by Vitor’s lovely wife. She also served jams and liquor that she made from grapes she grew.

We had a great time learning about Terceira, Azorean food and culture and, of course, volcanic wine with Vitor and Helia. They welcomed us into their home and helped us better understand the history and culture of the Azores. They were generous hosts - and a lot of fun to spend time with! I would recommend doing any of Vitor's experiences - it is a great way to get oriented to Terceira and have a great time!

My sister and I had a lovely evening with Victor and Helia at their charming home in Praia da Vitoria. They were gracious hosts and great conversationalists! Loved the whole experience! I recommend it highly.

A very nice and recommended experience. It felt like visiting a distant uncle. It turned into a fun "family" party. We enjoyed many tasty snacks and very nice wines and a very pleasant host and hostess. It was a good way to get to know life in the Azores. In 4 hours we learned a lot, ate a lot and drank a lot.

This was the best evening we had in the Azores, delicious food, great wine, and a knowledgeable and friendly host and family. It was like having dinner at your best friend's house. In a world of travel that is mostly sightseeing, being able to interact with a friendly local family, and eat and drink delicious products right from the island, is something to be cherished. Can't wait to do it again next trip!
