It marked a turning point in India’s modern history, in that it left a permanent scar on Indo-British relations and was the prelude to Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi’s full commitment to the cause of Indian nationalism and independence from Britain.

The Partition of India has been one of the most defining events in the history of the subcontinent. It was the largest migration in human history and upto 20 million people were affected. Despite the extensive loss to life and property, 70 years later there existed a severe lacuna that no museum or memorial existed anywhere in the world to remember all those millions. The Partition Museum aims to fill this void and tell the story through the voices of those who lived through the times.

Incredible tour

Balwinder assessed our interests and tailored the Amritsar tour for us very well. He was attentive to our preferences and ensured our trip to the Golden Temple was complete with a daytime and nighttime vist, and a wonderful explanation of the history and rituals. He guided us very well to the border ceremony and gave us a few city highlights that interested us. We highly recommend Balwinder as a local tour guide.
