Israel was excellent from beginning to end. He took lots of time to tell us about the history of the island and was extremely friendly

Great experience!

Alesio was our guide and he was great, explaining some of the science in easy terms but also letting us have our own time to paddle around and explore. The clear bottom kayaks were very cool — with the dinoflagellates zooming by like stars in space. Even on a night with moonlight, we saw a lot, but know that some areas have brighter pockets of the little organisms, so move around and explore!

Incredible experience everyone should have, just know a couple things beforehand!

Overall a truly incredible experience that I will never forget! That being said, the meeting area was a more isolated area at a small structure in the middle of nowhere outside of Esperanza, which was not exactly clear so we walked and it ended up being extremely dark and slightly frightening. I could see the 7pm times being no problem, but the 9pm meeting time for us was a little different! I would also note that you will be taking your shoes off which was not mentioned, so I would recommend just wearing flip flops. After this and the slightly squeamish walk through the mud and water to get into the kayak, it is absolutely mesmerizing and completely worth it! We had never even set foot on a kayak before and when it dawned on us that we were about to go into the middle of the ocean in the pitch black darkness we became slightly cautious, but once we were out there it was perfectly fine. We picked it up no problem. The only other thing worth mentioning in relation to pre-booking transportation at the end is that it is much shorter than the time frame given for the tour, being about an hour rather than 2 hours. Overall, if you're aware of the prep beforehand and on the way, it is truly the most amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Great Time!

Alexis was our tour guide and he was fantastic. He was full of knowledge regarding the bays history, science behind the bioluminescent bay and just plain fun. The experience was magical. We did the 7:30 tour and at first we couldn't see much of the bioluminescence but as we got further in the bay every movement in the water was glowing nicely. I would definitely recommend this company.

Admiring the bioluminescence responsibly.

We liked the provider, Alexis was our guide, and it is evident that he is passionate about his work. He explains very well, keeps the group together, and is responsible for the protection of the Bioluminescent Bay.

Vieques Bioluminescent Bay Trip, June 2026

Don’t worry about having water shoes. Flip flops are a good option. You will need shoes to walk towards the water, but will be asked to remove them before loading into the clear kayaks. Any bug spray with Deet is a no, no because it hurts the environment. Walking into the water was mushy, so just a warning for those that are sensitive to that sort of thing. The kayaks are 2 person. When we finally got going, looking down at the glass bottom was fantastic. It glowed like glitter as we paddled out to the bay. We had our main guide in the front and another tailing the group. They were both super friendly and helpful. Our tail guide watched to make sure we didn’t float away. The tour was so educational. The guide spoke about the history and science of the bay, but also the stars in the sky. Absolutely beautiful experience! I highly recommend the tour for those that know how to use a kayak or it might be challenging to enjoy. Last note, you will get a bit wet when paddling out and back.

Mosquito Bay by moonlight

Great experience, even for old folks like me. I learned a lot and there’s something magical about being out on the bay at night.

Great experience!

Booking and communication were straightforward, which was very nice. The meeting location felt a little odd at first but was clearly marked once we reached the specific coordinates sent our way, and the shuttle to take us to the bay arrived right on schedule. Staff and guides were friendly and efficient, and our experience exceeded our expectations. We attended the tour on the week following a new-moon and had good weather, so the glow from the dinoflagellates was very bright and impressive with each movement thru the water.
