Verona Full Day Trip from Lake Garda

Description
Immortalised in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Verona holds a special place in lovers' hearts. You'll get to fall in love with the city on this day trip from Lake Garda, seeing all its main sights as you wander around the history-steeped streets of its old town. Your guide will show you around, pointing out highlights such as the Roman Porta Borsari and the Roman arena – used every summer for an opera festival – and Juliet's Balcony. There are also some truly historic bridges over the River Adige as well as a world-class collection of medieval churches and basilicas. You'll also see the exterior of the Scaliger Tombs – five Gothic mausoleums for the Scaliger family, nobles who once ruled over Verona. And you'll discover the monumental Piazza dei Signori, location of the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Antica, and the Piazza delle Erbe. There'll also be free time for lunch and shopping.

Pick up was at a convenient place to our accommodation, and was on time and transported us to Verona in a comfortable air conditioned coach. The courier gave us lots of useful and interesting information enroute. Short walk from the coach parking spot into the main square. Arrived around 10am and had time for a coffee before our 11am tour on foot with an English speaking guide. Also provided with audio sets so that you could hear the guide over other groups. The guided walk was relatively flat and was presented in a lovely manner by the guide. After this we had from 12.15pm until 3.45pm to have lunch and explore the city on our own. Return journey was relaxing with an excellent driver who delivered you to your hotel, where possible. It's a long day from Lake Garda but well worth the effort.
Friendly & fun guides & driver. Comfortable bus. Wonderful sites. I appreciated having time to myself for lunch. The early one hour break gave me time to shop for a hat and lighter, linen, shirt to endure the heat of the day better. During the tour I was able to quickly power-shop for a lightweight spacious but packable leather bag in the market without losing the group, to fit the smaller bag I brought plus clothing items. It was mid-June, so hot and it is touristy, of course, I was among them. Food in tourist restaurants is not spectacular, though the olives and potato chips served with the drink order were delicious and tasty. I found a more off the beaten track place - cafe Fama - for a warm polpo and zuccini salad with Kalamata olives. It was an improvement over pasta, pinsa or pizza at the main tourist places. I found another smaller bar with ready bathroom to while away 2 more hours left in the day when it was too hot to wander and I had no more shopping interest.
Plenty of history to this place, we were on a walk I king tour which lasted for around 1.5 hours, very informative and interesting, the cost to get into the amphitheatre is around €12 per person but worth seeing. Lots of shops and as you would expect restaurants and cafes.
From start to finish this was a worthwhile trip. Our first guide on the coach to Verona and through our time there was lovely. Think her name was Rosata?? Very informative, lovely friendly guide with enthusiasm and knowledge. Our guide around Verona was Leonardo and he was fabulous. Quite funny, very informative, passionate about his home and its amazing history. Lots of time to see Arena on your own, shop till you drop, enjoy the shops etc. very good trip, really enjoyed it.
We went with Tui to Verona on 25th September but unable to leave a review for the trip on Tui app. The guide on the drive to and back from Verona was very informative, sorry didn’t get his name. However the trip was let down dramatically by the tour guide we had in Verona itself. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand a word she was saying and asking around no one else seemed to understand her either. Verona is stunning but I am no more clear than before I went about the city. We enjoyed the free time though. We won’t book excursion to Verona again but find our own way. Annoyed that we paid a lot of money for the lady Verona guide and didn’t understand her at all, for this reason I give it a poor.
