For 3.5-hours, enjoy comfort and style, exceptional amenities and outstanding service in vintage rail cars on a century-old route. Wind your way through a red rock paradise, with tracks that hug the curves of the Verde River. Every season offers a different reason to ride! Astonishing views of a wild and vibrant frontier, historic trestles, bridges and a 7000-foot tunnel are just a few of the highlights tucked into unusual rock formations, red rock pinnacles and towering crimson cliffs. Majestic bald eagles and hawks float effortlessly on the breeze above Javelina, wild burros, jackrabbits and many other Canyon creatures, peacefully coexisting with this heritage railroad for more than 100 years.

At the depot, be sure to visit the John Bell Museum, home to the railroad's history and artifacts from its early days, as well as a wealth of information on Clarkdale, Jerome and the Yavapai-Apache Nation.

Overall worth the experience

Anthony and Aiden were great guides. Very informative and fun. Sites were good. Ecological facts were great. Ruins and bridges were not the most impressive for us coming from CO. Train atmosphere was great. Clean, but the two people table top's chairs could have been more comfortable but should have been more secured; were a hallway hazard. The length and admission price was appropriate. In train food and cocktails were very good. The lunch, huge salad not great, mostly leafy, not enough vegetables. Burger was good. Overall good and fun! The fall may be beautiful 😍

Very fun experience!

Our recent experience on the Verde Canyon Railway was outstanding from start to finish and exceeded our expectations in every way. The entire operation is incredibly well organized, making the process smooth and enjoyable from arrival through departure. We especially enjoyed the delicious food at the depot restaurant before boarding — it was the perfect way to begin the adventure. What truly set this experience apart was the people. Every member of the staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic. The team (Josh and Ryan) assigned to our train car was knowledgeable, attentive, engaging, and full of energy throughout the journey. Their stories, insights, and interaction added so much to the overall experience and made the trip both entertaining and educational. The train cars themselves were extremely comfortable, with excellent air conditioning that made the ride pleasant even on a warm Arizona day. The charcuterie offerings were also a very nice touch and far exceeded our expectations. The only suggestion we would offer for improvement involves the guide in the outdoor viewing car. He shared a tremendous amount of fascinating information and wonderful stories, but unless you were standing or seated very close to him, it was difficult to hear what he was saying. A cordless microphone would make a tremendous difference and allow all passengers to fully enjoy and appreciate the commentary. Overall, this was a fantastic experience that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Arizona. We left with wonderful memories and would gladly do it again.

Wonderful experience

We checked in a little over an hour before departure, which was 1:00. We got back to the depot about 5:25. So plan for the excursion to take a good chunk of time. It was great! Between the meal voucher, the charcuterie on board, and the champagne, we were constantly full. The meal portions at the depot were large! You can buy drinks on board, and they are reasonable. I’m a wine drinker, so I will tell you that you have to buy wine by the bottle. The bottles are all $30, so nothing outrageous, and they have a cap, so if you don’t finish, you can take them off the train with you. As for the train ride experience, we all loved it. It was me, spouse, a 15 year old, and 17 year old. We were fortunate to have a slightly overcast day in late June, so it was definitely pleasant to sit/stand in the open air car to take in the scenery. The workers were fantastic—great customer service and knowledgeable about the things we would see. This whole experience was a highlight of our trip to the Sedona area.

Operator response
