Campo San Polo is one of Venice’s largest and most atmospheric squares, located in the heart of the city’s historic center. Unlike the more crowded tourist hotspots, it offers a more authentic and relaxed glimpse into everyday Venetian life. Surrounded by elegant palaces and traditional buildings, Campo San Polo has long been a place of gathering, celebrations, and even historic events such as festivals, markets, and public performances. In winter, it occasionally transforms into an open-air ice-skating rink, adding a charming seasonal touch. Today, it remains a peaceful open space where locals and visitors alike can pause, enjoy the surroundings, and experience a quieter side of Venice. Its central location also makes it an ideal stop while exploring nearby highlights such as Rialto and San Marco.

Pass by

Campo San Rocco is a quiet and atmospheric square in the heart of Venice, best known for its close connection to the stunning nearby Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Unlike the more crowded tourist areas, Campo San Rocco offers a peaceful setting where visitors can pause and soak in the authentic Venetian atmosphere. The square is framed by traditional buildings and has a timeless feel, reflecting the city’s rich history and everyday life. It is especially popular as a stopping point for travelers visiting the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, home to one of the most impressive collections of paintings by Tintoretto. From here, it’s easy to continue exploring nearby highlights such as the Basilica dei Frari and the lively San Polo district. Campo San Rocco is ideal for those looking to experience a quieter, more local side of Venice while staying close to major artistic and historical treasures.

Rialto Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in Venice and one of the oldest bridges spanning the Grand Canal. With its elegant white stone arch and lively atmosphere, it has become a symbol of the city and a must-see for every visitor. Originally built as a wooden bridge and later reconstructed in stone during the late Renaissance, it once served as the commercial heart of Venice, connecting bustling markets and trading routes. Today, it is lined with small shops and offers breathtaking views over the Grand Canal, where gondolas and boats pass continuously beneath. Visiting the Rialto Bridge is especially magical at sunrise or sunset, when the light reflects beautifully on the water and the city reveals its most romantic side. It remains one of the best spots in Venice to take photos and soak in the unique charm of the floating city.

10 min

St. Mark’s Square, known as Piazza San Marco, is the heart of Venice and one of the most famous squares in the world. Surrounded by magnificent architecture, it has long been the city’s main gathering place and a symbol of its power, art, and history. Here you’ll find the stunning St. Mark’s Basilica with its golden mosaics and intricate façade, alongside the impressive Doge’s Palace, once the seat of Venetian political power. The square is also framed by elegant arcades, historic cafés, and the soaring Campanile, which offers panoramic views over the city. Piazza San Marco has been described as an “open-air living room” of Venice, where visitors and locals gather to admire its beauty, listen to live music, and take in the timeless atmosphere. At high tide, the square may partially flood, creating a unique and unforgettable reflection of its architecture on the water.

Julia was fab.

Great first day in Venice. Use this tour to find your bearings, grab some historical facts from a genuine Venetian guide and take on board some great travel tips. Julia was fabulous and battled through her cold to deliver a really useful tour for us. She hung around after the tour finished to answer anyone's questions, offering up the opportunity to take a picture of her personal favorite eateries. We explored a few of these and can vouch for the great value and authentic experiences that she promised. The guide wore a microphone that transmitted to wireless headphones provided in the price. This worked well most of the time but be sure to keep close to the guide as the comms tended to break up if distance increased, especially down the narrow lanes. We navigated the back streets to avoid the crowds which we remembered to use again in the following days. Thank you Julia, you were fab.

Perfect way to start your Venice trip

Great walking tour! Perfect for all ages. Our guide provided so much historical facts during the walk, very interesting! We've learned so much about Venice. Our guide actually took us through alleyways and backstreets, which allowed us to avoid the crowds on the main route. Our tour ended at the San Marco square. She provided us some very helpfull tips for a nice restaurant for lunch near the square.

Excellent tour with Alice. The tour covered a good area of Venice from the less well known to the popular. The guide was well informed and led at a good pace. Really glad we did this, and would definitely recommend.
