Great museum. Plan to spend at least half a day. My 11 year old Grandson said it was his favorite museum. The talks by the veterans were really up.
The narrow and steep stairs could provide some mobility issues in certain areas. But we loved the history and learning about the ship and its history.
A must in San Diego for all interested in the US Midway I really enjoyed it Everything was perfect A must in San Diego
The USS Midway is worth the money and time to check out this piece of history! We booked our tickets online the day before because it was a couple dollars cheaper than at the door. We picked up the self-guided audio tour gear and set off. They say give yourself 3-5 hours, with my husband being a WWII enthusiast (and myself a bit by proxy) we spent just a little over 6 hours taking a look at everything! The audio tour was very informative, and each Docent we ran into was kind and very knowledgeable about the history of the ship and the aircraft. Be prepared to walk and climb! Some of the stairs leading to the upper levels/bridge area are very steep, but so worth the climb for the views and history from the Docents. We went on a Monday and it was busy but not crowded, but we never felt rushed or crowded. We at lunch at Café 41 there and it was delicious and a nice break in the shade while looking out over San Diego. Don't forget to stop at the gift shop to get yourself a reminder of your visit. This is a must do for your visit to San Diego!
The whole tour was amazing. It was not crowded and the volunteers were very helpful and had lots of stories about the ship and the battle that it was named after. So many things to see. You definitely need at least a couple of hours but realistically 3 hours to see everything.
It was a very good experience. You had a lot of fun so much information. The audio tour was perfect.
Difficult with Toddler. We knew there was much if the ship we would not see, but when the guys went up to the top on the guided tour and we were told the tour is 30 min, that was clearly incorrect. They had all of these waiting areas and waited 40 min to start the tour. Then we had no cell coverage in the ship to let them know we needed to move from our meet place to keep the toddler entertained. They need to label the waiting line to state how long the wait for the tour is because it makes you think you are starting it when you actually have a long wait. After that fiasco, after which we were lucky to find each other at all without cell on a metal ship, we just left having not seen half of the ship. So, don't attempt the island tour when half of your party is keeping a toddler entertained. Likely a really great experience without a two year old. They also need to warn to keep party together due to no cell coverage.
An awesome place to go with the family. It took us about 4 hours to tour the whole ship. So interesting, and very informative. Would definitely recommend!
Great experience and seeing Naval history firsthand. Friendly staff and great interactive experience.
We very much enjoyed this tour. The number of friendly volunteers was impressive. Their willingness to add their personal experiences made the tour even better. Very nicely organized. We spent 3 hours on the ship and enjoyed every minute.
