Unesco: visit to Carthage, Kairouan and El Jem

Founded in 670, the city of Kairouan flourished under the Ahlabid dynasty in the 9th century. Despite the transfer of the political capital to Tunis in the 12th century, Kairouan remained the first holy city in the Maghreb. Its rich architectural heritage notably includes the Great Mosque, with its columns of marble and porphyry, and the Three-door mosque which dates from the 9th century.

The Colosseum of El Jem is quite simply the 3rd largest amphitheater in the Roman world after those of Rome and Capua, and perhaps the best preserved. Indeed, his visit amazes with its architecture and the genius developed for its construction. The site is logically classified as UNESCO World Heritage since 1979.

Carthage, located in what is now Tunisia, was once a thriving ancient city founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC. It became a major power in the Mediterranean, recognized for its vast commercial networks and its formidable navy. Carthage's rich history includes its legendary rivalry with Rome, which reached its peak during the Punic Wars. Today, archaeological remains such as Byrsa Hill and the Antonine Baths offer a glimpse into its illustrious past, making it a cultural and historical site of great importance.
