Umbrian Regional and Traditional Cooking Class

Totally overpriced - poor value. The experience was welcoming (when we eventually found their home) however, the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the cooking was restricted to simply pasta making. Also our booking was supposed to be for lunch and was rescheduled without our agreement to the evening for dinner.

A fantastic experience

A wonderful experience for the three of us including our 9 year old daughter. This was a glimpse of the local cooking style and an small introduction into the local way of life. Highly recommend this personalized experience. Hosts were fantastic. The location is a little hard to find so make sure you know where you are going before you head off.

The cooking class is actually at a bed and breakfast inn called the Malvarina and the food was literally the best I’ve ever tasted. The cook is an old Nona with traditional, simple recipes that just cannot be compared. All fresh ingredients grown on their farm and such a lovely setting.

Our family of six had a wonderful time visiting and cooking with Anna Maria! She and her husband Roberto have a beautiful home with an amazing kitchen. Anna Maria taught us how to make perfect tagliatelle and delicious traditional umbrian ragu. She was full of information about the region and cooking techniques specific to umbrian. Our lunch was completed with local meats, cheese, wine, and baked goods. You couldn't ask for a better host or teacher! The drive and view are worth the effort too.

We had such wonderful time! I was hesitant to book this trip because of the lack of reviews, but I am so glad we did! We booked this class for Thanksgiving day, and it really was the perfect Thanksgiving-away-from-home activity. The class is held at the Malvarina Restaurant which I believe is also a bed and breakfast, a family-run business just outside Assisi. We took a cab from the Assisi train station, and it took about fifteen minutes to get there by taxi. The Malvarina is located up on a hill, and the gorgeous view of the countryside is absolutely unbelievable.

Federico and his family were incredibly welcoming and had coffee and snacks waiting for us when we arrived. We then had a lot of fun learning to make a full multi-course Italian style meal my favorite part was learning to make the gnocchi!. Afterwards, we sat upstairs in the dining room and had a lovely lunch of all the food we had prepared. We never felt rushed, and afterwards our hosts even graciously showed us around a bit of the property.

Thanks for a great time!

Emily
