We will zip through the winding country roads and stop for pictures along the way. You won't want to forget your camera on this trip - the sights are incredible and you will be in the heart of the Chianti region! After our picture break we will continue driving until we return to a private Tuscan winery to learn a little bit about how local wine and olive oil is created. Dajn, Alexis, and Mario were absolutely fantastic from start to finish! This wasn’t an outstanding experience riding Vespas through the Tuscany countryside. The winery, tour, and tastings with Mario were 5-stars! Thank you to Tuscany Cycle for a fabulous and memorable afternoon!
My family booked the Vespa and winery tour with Tuscany Cycles because it was the experience my daughter was most excited about during our trip to Florence. Although the scenery, winery, lunch, and riding through Tuscany were enjoyable, our experience during the Vespa training overshadowed the entire day for our family, which is why I cannot recommend this company based on our experience. During the training, each inexperienced rider was asked to practice riding while the rest of the group stood on both sides of a gravel road watching. My daughter was already very nervous and had even told me beforehand that she thought she should just ride as a passenger with her husband. I encouraged her to at least try. When it was her turn, she panicked and nearly rode into the people watching before stopping the Vespa. Thankfully, no one was hurt. She laughed immediately afterward because she was embarrassed—a nervous reaction that many people have in stressful situations. Our family laughed too, partly because we were trying to ease the awkwardness and help her feel better, and partly because watching the Vespa wobble back and forth was, in the moment, a funny sight. We were not laughing at the seriousness of what had happened or suggesting that safety wasn't important. Instead of handling the situation with a calm explanation, Alexa and the owner, Dejan, raised their voices and reprimanded her in front of the entire group. Dejan yelled at our family using the F- word. A few minutes later, after my daughter was already crying, Alexa came back over, raised her voice again, and continued scolding her for laughing. I explained that the laughter was a reaction to embarrassment and that the incident had been an accident. I also told Alexa that she had now embarrassed my daughter a second time in front of everyone. I completely understand that safety must come first, and once it was clear my daughter wasn't comfortable driving, she was fine to ride as a passenger with her husband for the remainder of the tour. We had absolutely no issue paying for her to ride as a passenger. That wasn't the problem. The problem was how the situation was handled. There was no need to continue reprimanding a guest who was already embarrassed, especially in front of the rest of the group. To make matters worse, Dejan told my daughter and our family that we had "killed the vibe," when in reality it was the way the situation was handled that changed the atmosphere for us. After witnessing this, I no longer felt comfortable trying to drive a Vespa myself. I was so intimidated by the instructors' reactions that I was nervous just getting on as a passenger. I appreciate that teaching new riders requires taking safety seriously, and I would have completely understood if they had simply decided my daughter should ride as a passenger. My disappointment stems entirely from how the situation was handled. I believe guests can be corrected, kept safe, and even removed from driving if necessary without being yelled at or repeatedly scolded in front of an entire group. I hope Tuscany Cycles views this as constructive feedback and considers handling similar situations with more patience and professionalism in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the Tuscan scenery, the winery, and the lunch, but we are truly sorry that the training session left your family with such a negative impression. Safety is, and has always been, our highest priority. Over the past 15 years, we have welcomed more than 50,000 guests on our Vespa tours, many of whom had never ridden a scooter before. Our safety procedures have been developed through years of experience and are designed to protect not only the individual rider but also every other guest in the group. During the practice session, your daughter unfortunately lost control of the Vespa and came very close to riding into several people who were standing nearby. Thankfully, no one was injured. While we understand that laughter can sometimes be a nervous reaction to an uncomfortable or embarrassing situation, from our perspective, immediately after what could have been a serious accident, it appeared that the seriousness of the situation was not being recognized. In that moment, it was our responsibility to stop the exercise and make it absolutely clear to everyone that safety is never something we can treat lightly. We certainly did not intend to embarrass your daughter. Once we determined that she was not comfortable riding, we immediately arranged for her to enjoy the tour safely as a passenger with her husband, allowing her to still experience the beautiful Tuscan countryside and winery without any further pressure to drive. Regarding the language you mention, if my words came across more strongly than intended, I sincerely apologize. Emotions can run high when we believe someone's safety—or the safety of the group—has been at risk. Any frustration expressed was directed at the seriousness of the situation, never at your daughter as a person. Our comment about the "vibe" was never meant to blame your family. It reflected the fact that a potentially dangerous incident naturally changed the atmosphere for everyone present, including ourselves, as our immediate focus shifted entirely to ensuring that every guest remained safe. We appreciate your feedback regarding how we communicated during this situation. While we will never compromise on safety, we always strive to treat our guests with respect, and we will certainly reflect on your comments about our communication. We genuinely wish your family all the best and hope that, despite this unfortunate moment, you were still able to take home some positive memories of Tuscany.
This is the tour to experience the true Italian countryside at its finest. The tour begins at a lovely private farm and vineyard in the Chianti region. There is a private tour of the winery with a sommelier followed by a relaxing Vespa tour of the picturesque Italian countryside. The Vespa ride is capped by wine and lunch in a beautiful setting. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. I couldn’t recommend this tour more highly.
My wife and I had a delightful day riding vespas and wine tasting. The countryside is beautiful as is the vineyard where we had lunch and wine tasting. Recommend highly as a Tuscany countryside excursion!
It was a great experience. It would have been nice to see more of the vineyard during the tour. Also, it would have been nice to have the lunch outdoors.
Don’t provide much training on the Vespa and then don’t let you ride unless you pass their test. Wasted $600 on antipasto and pasta with a good view.
Hi Dirk, We are sorry the experience did not meet your expectations. As explained before the tour, safety is our priority for both guests and guides. We always provide an introduction and practice session before leaving Florence, and only guests who are able to confidently control the Vespa can continue driving on the road. Unfortunately, after the training, you were not able to safely operate the Vespa, so we offered you the possibility to still enjoy the experience as a passenger with one of our guides. Your response to this offer was "no way am I riding b%@ seat" so we allowed for you to join our wine tasting tour instead. Meanwhile, your wife opted in to join the tour and had a great time enjoying the countryside, food, and views. When we stopped with the Vespa group her exact quote was "My husband is missing out! This is awesome!" We understand your disappointment, but the riding assessment is there to protect everyone on the tour, especially guests with no previous Vespa experience and our guides felt you would be a danger to yourself and others out on the road. Dejan
Had an amazing time we loved it. We were worried if we couldn't use the vespa that we would loose our money but no, they provided cute little fiat cars so we could still join the fun we loved driving in the country side good food and company great tour guide who spoke good English and was very knowledgeable.
We had lovely time with Odd, Alexa and Lorenzo on our Vespa tour! They were very friendly and knowledgeable about wines. The estate where we had our lunch was beautiful!
Alexa and Dejan always deliver! We did the Vespa tour for the first time (have been a cyclist renting a bike from them in the past). Such a s great experience from saying our greetings to being served fresh local Chianti w our chef prepared meal. Thanks to Odd, that’s our somm guide/chef/wine cellar tour guide, we had a super day. Full of laughs, 4 different wines, thru dessert and a fun van ride back to the city. Loved this perfect day in FLR! Carey and Goody Mesa, AZ
What an adventure!!! Alexa and Odd (yes, Odd) were our guide and host for this tour, which was nothing short of amazeballs. My wife was very nervous, but with some coaching and training, we navigated the Tuscan countryside, drinking in some incredible scenery, with incredible wine, food, and conversation with new friends. I can’t recommend this tour enough. We had so much fun and was such a great way to start our day.
