Spanish It is not worth paying so much money for this tour. The entrance ticket to Machu Picchu costs approximately $45 and the Expedition train around $150, so the price this company charges seems excessive to me for the service it offers. They picked us up at the hotel in a van, but they gave us a 30-minute window, so we had to be ready from 3:00 a.m. without knowing the exact time. The person who picked us up was never someone we had previously been in contact with. They dropped us off at the train station and only told us to walk to the back to board. We had to do it on our own. Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, a different person took us to the bus line to Machu Picchu, took a photo of us, and sent it to the guide so they could identify us at the entrance. Once again, we waited alone. Already at the entrance, they joined us to a group of about 10 people. The guide did Circuit 2 very hurriedly and repeated the same information several times, giving the impression of not knowing much about the place. Upon finishing, he simply said: "My part ends here" and he left. The tour does not include the return bus to Aguas Calientes (approx. $12). Walking takes about an hour and a half, which is impractical after touring Machu Picchu. Once back in town, you are completely on your own. We took the 9:50 p.m. train and it was too late. I recommend choosing one before 7:00 p.m. Upon arriving in Ollantaytambo, they assigned us buses based on availability; there were no reserved seats. They even tried to put us on a bus with no space. Everything was very disorganized, around 1:00 a.m. Furthermore, the route is on stone roads and some vehicles were not in the best condition. Finally, they did not drop us off at the hotel or at the Plaza de Armas, as they had indicated, but at Plaza Regocijo. The person we communicated with during the entire booking was never present; we were always assisted by different people. In my opinion, the service is very overrated and the price does not correspond to the experience. I would not book with this company again. English This tour is not worth the price. The person we had been communicating with throughout the booking process was never there; every step of the trip was handled by someone different. Overall, the service was disorganized and overpriced. I would not book with this company again.
Disappointing organisation, saved only by one excellent guide Unfortunately this trip was let down by poor organisation and communication throughout. The itinerary should have been provided in detail well in advance — it wasn’t, which made things difficult to plan around. More seriously, we were charged at the last minute for a private guide, even though guiding was meant to be included in the package. The excuse given was that there wasn’t a group for our 7am slot, so we were forced to pay extra out of pocket. The one real highlight was our guide at Machu Picchu, Carlos Sifuentes Sullcaccori — extremely knowledgeable and a real credit to the experience. Worth noting he is a freelance guide, not affiliated with Mega Expedition, so his excellent service can’t be credited to the company. Sadly his expertise couldn’t fully make up for the poor planning and unexpected costs from Mega Expedition Machu Pichu is a truly magical and special place. I would heartily recommend visiting if at all possible. I would strongly suggest that you find another tour company to use.
This was a mixed bag. Nick was helpful in explaining our options due to the last minute booking. Cosmos our guide was excellent. What was confusing was the tour company gave us tickets for 7AM but then booked our return train for 9:50PM. We had to pay $215 to change it and even then it was 4:20PM. We arrive back at Olaytemtembo for pickup by the driver. On the way back to Cusco , the driver proceeds to pick up first 2 people who are not part of the tour and pockets the money. So now, we are a local transport service and then in the absolute middle of nowhere, he stops to pick up yet another person. This was scary as hell for my family.
Our guide for the actual day tour to Machu Picchu was Victor. Highly recommend him. A local in the area and his 20 years experience provided an incredible day. He even brought along a book for this site to help see and understand the true history of this incredible place. Victor, thank you for an unforgettable trip and your passion was wonderful.
Our trip to Machu Picchu was an incredible trip. We booked this trip last minute and understood the possibility of how difficult it could be to get tickets as this is such a high visited area. Our guide - Nixon provided us with such diligence, that we did get tickets for a great day and great time. We had to be flexible for 2 days to get them which was no problem. They also provided a very detailed itinerary with pictures to assist with all the steps in this vacation. There are a lot. So we had no worries on what to do and what was next to come. They provided fabulous people to help us all the way! Thank you so much.
Excellent guide, very knowledgeable and good communication
Mega Expeditions went above and beyond with this tour. Not only did they prepare me beforehand with a Zoom call, but they guided me through the process every part of the way. Mega Expeditions was very organized and communicative throughout the process and the price for the tour was more reasonable in comparison to other companies. My tour guide Paul Alexander Calsina Acuña was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and provided me with alot of wisdom about the history of Machu Picchu upon arrival.
Nixon was an absolute delight to work with normal journey itinerary planning and and when our flight plans change ,he is super delightful to work with to change and shift things around last minute to make the trip enjoyable still. We were a big group of 21 and he managed the trip really well and the guides were delightful to work with especially victor at machu pichu with his passionate story telling and Miegul at Cusco city and sacred valley with absolute energy to explain .If you want your trip to go smoothly,Mega Expeditions is the place ,hands down"
Excellent tour, especially by our guide Diego who explained everything found in Machu Picchu and also gave us excellent recommendations in the village
I did a private tour with my guide, Victor, and it was unforgettable. Circuit 3 is a must for history buffs—packed with fascinating insights that brought the past to life. Truly an awesome experience 🙏🏼. Approved by OutdoorZone.ie
