Trust this tour run by locals to help make your rain forest adventure safe and friendly

We were happy with the convenience of taking an Uber from San Juan to the meeting spot, followed by a bus ride because traffic and parking is usually difficult at this attraction in PR. Bus has strong A/C and took 1 hr. The bus was divided into smaller groups, each with a tour guide. Our tour guide Ashley is a ray of sunshine; enthusiasm, smiles, a helping hand, checking on each person in her group, securing our items for us, taking photos with her own phone to send later. She made this a great adventure. Our family members felt safe navigating the rocky terrain with her. Seems like most people do best with socks and sneakers. Just be ok with mud and soaked shoes until you can change at the end. We had so much fun trying each rock slide and jump into the water. The refreshing water is a reward for your climb to each summit. There are a lot of other tour groups making the rounds so don't expect a quiet or private escape. Still, it was super fun and did not feel uncomfortably crowded. Everything moved at a timely pace and everyone was having a great time. We opted out of a tour that went to Luquillo Beach after El Yunque and are glad we did. That would have been too much of an excursion for our family. This tour was just right when it came time and level of activity. The lunch spot serves traditional PR cuisine, like pollo guisado, rice, beans, yucca fries with mayo ketchup, fridge drinks, and dessert. Great tour for a first timer.

Amazing experience!

Viktor was our guide and incredibly patient with some members of our group who were a bit nervous with the water activities, myself included, but I ended up doing all of them! The trip is safe and he also discusses some of the vegetation and history along the walk. This excursion is more water than hike. Definitely worth the experience. Excursion took exactly 7 hours. I would advise to bring a water proof case so you can have your phone with you. Valuables are typically left on the bus or with the guide.

Great Tour for all to experience

I booked the El Yunque Rainforest & Waterslide – Small Group Tour specifically because I wanted a smaller group experience so I was a little puzzled when our group ended up being larger than 10 people. That was the only part of the tour that didn’t match my expectations. On that aspect alone I’d give it 3/5 stars especially since the small-group option is clearly offered for people looking for a more personal experience. That said, this was the only negative of the entire tour. Ashley was absolutely amazing. From the very beginning, she took charge, made sure everyone was informed and had us fully prepared for the day. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the island and Puerto Rico’s history which added a lot to the experience beyond just the rainforest itself. She also made safety a priority the entire time and explained each activity in detail before we did it which made everyone feel comfortable and ready. Overall, I would still give the experience 5 stars. My family and I had a great time in the rainforest and really enjoyed the day. If the group size had matched what was advertised this would have been a perfect tour.

Adventurous and Exciting

Our guide, Brian, and our driver, Saito, were excellent. They provided us with some history of Puerto Rico and how it started. This was very informational and a learning opportunity for us. I would recommend this trip to any of my family and friends. Again, thank you for a great e experience and a wonderful and exciting day.

You have to jump.

This is a beautiful place and has potential to be a great experience but it is overcrowded and the majority of the time is spent waiting in line. We had a few communication issues with our guide. 1) Not jumping was presented as an option. I took it as my son has a well controlled medical condition that does require us to carry a small dry bag. I decided to hold the dry bag to avoid any mishaps. The jumps were right in front of us. We were told if you aren’t going to jump “stay here and I will come back for you”. My fault for not asking how long. I was left there for 1-2 hours and missed the entire hike. Had I known this I would’ve jumped. 2) We were advised by said guide not to bring phones as he would take pics and videos and email them to us. We listened and didn’t take our phones. Nothing has been received. 3) Not a communication error, just a gripe, since I was sitting for so long I saw several tour guides take group pics for their groups - ours didn’t even ask. The restaurant that you stop at after is amazing! It was one of our favorite meals while we were in PR.
