When family & friends come to visit us in Portugal, we have an awesome way to help show off this amazing country and its mind-bogglingly deep history: David Monteiro and his private tours! We gave David a few places we'd like to visit (Convent of Christ in Tomar with its truly extraordinary 'inner sanctum', Nazaré, Obidós, etc), and he came up with just the right sequence to avoid traffic delays and maximise our time at each location. He helped us find **scruptious** lunch and dinner. And he was a constant font of interesting information. David has pride in his country's place in world history, and a broader awareness of European history to help contextualise it, and he speaks at least 5 languages (6 if you include Aussie ;-).
Dear Anthony (Amfony), Thank you very much for your review of our "All over the place" tour :D It was great taking all of you around some great parts of this country, finding the best spots to eat and showing you the best views and monuments. It was a rather long day but totally worth it. I have yet to perfect my aussie but I am getting there mate :D Best Regards, David Monteiro
A good guide can make or break a day trip. Our guide Pedro really made our day! We knew nothing about the Templar Knights before meeting Pedro. Now I feel like I earned the equivalent of college credits on the subject. Pedro spent a lot of time explaining the long history of the Knights and it came to life as we explored the castles. And you will enjoy the time you get to spend in Tomar!
Dear James, Thank you very much for your review. Pedro is indeed a wealth of knowledge and I am lucky that he can sometimes cover me when I am busy. The feedback my clients give me from him is always great. Hope you had a great time and come back in the future for more tours with us. Best Regards, David Monteiro
Our guy David was very knowledgeable spoke very good English and made some recommendations based on what we wanted to see so he was able to adjust the program which was nice. The visit to the Templar castle, the coast and the Walled palace were exceptional exceptional. Lunch was in a quaint local restaurant on the coast and very nice. Try green wine for the first time and enjoyed it I would recommend the store
Dear Rich, Thank you very much for your review. It was a pleasure being your guide and driver for this tour and I hope you had as much fun as I had spending the day with you. Hope to see you again soon. Best Regards, David Monteiro
We highly recommend this tour. My husband particularly loved it as he is a mason. We visited a castle where the Templars defended the territory from the Moors coming up the river and then off to to Tomar, Portugal where the Templars became The Order of Christ around 1318. Our guide, David Monteiro was gracious and so very informative. Having the entire day to absorb it all was wonderful. We ate a magnificent lunch in a local restaurant in Tomar. This was a wonderful tour for the History Channel fan or Masonic Brother. David was an awesome guide. Another great Viator experience.
Dear Debbie, Thank you for your kind review. Another great tour with nice people that are interested in learning all the aspects of the portuguese history and the famous Templars. I hope you had a great day and that you have a chance to come back one day for more of our amazing country. Best Regards, David Monteiro

Very interesting tour. We saw everything what is advertised and even more. The time spent on each site was perfect. David is very knowledgeable, attentive to the tourist's needs and interest, has excellent communication skills, tries to make extra steps. Highly recommended!

The Templar Knights Full Day Private tour with What to do in Portugal was more than we could have imagined. David contacted us through our travel agent to find out if his proposed itinerary was OK for us. What a wonderful start! On the day of our tour, we were picked up at our cruise terminal. David and his wife Michelle greeted us with big smiles. Off we went in their air-conditioned car. His car was equipped with a large clear sun-roof – more about that later. We first went to Almoural Castle. David warned us that we would have to take a boat over to the castle (tides willing.) Once you get over to the island, you can wander around the castle as you wish. Next, we went to Tomar to see the Convent of the Christ and the city of Tomar. The Convent of the Christ is very large and it is easy get lost. But David wouldn’t let us. We also stopped at the Church of Santa Maria do Olival and the Church of Saint John the Baptist as well as the Tomar City Center. While that was the extent of what the tour included, David didn’t stop there. Off we went to Nazare. Nazare is known for its incredibly high waves in November as well as picturesque scenery along the Portuguese coastline. After > 40 degrees Celsius (100+ Fahrenheit), it was a welcome relief at 32 C (90 F). To complete our day, (also, off script) David took us to the Christ the King Monument (per our request). This included crossing Portugal’s version of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge painted the color of the Golden Gate Bridge (actually called 25 de Abril Bridge). Remember the large clear sunroof – well, it came in handy on the approach to the bridge as well as the high architecture all during our full-day tour. What an exhausting but wonderful day! Finally, David didn’t stop there. He gave us advice about what we could do the next day during our half day in the city. We contacted David once we returned home to give him feedback about our journey without him and he offered to take us to taste Lisbon's famous custards that we missed. David and his wife Michelle were so absolutely wonderful.
Thank you very much for your review Ginny! It was a great day for us too. Taking people like you around our country is always a pleasure. We are glad you enjoyed your day and hope you can come back one day for a longer stay and see what you missed (and also eat the custard tarts!) See you soon! Best Regards, David and Michelle
We did 3 days private tour to Fatima, Sintra, Cascais, Obidos, Balem and Lisbon. And it was perfect. Thanks to David & Juan. Recommended for those visiting Lisbon.
Thank you for your review Eveline! I am glad you had a good couple of days with us. I will pass that information to João as well. Hope you also had a good time in Morocco. See you soon! Best Regards, David Monteiro

We had a great day with David on this tour. He made the day very interesting with commentary on pieces of history, current events and day to day life in Portugal. We started with the events planned and since we are very fast tourists we had time for some additional locations. He introduced us to a local cherry beverage in a City of Queens that you eat out of chocolate cups and took us to his favorite cake shop who wouldnt like that???. The Templar tour is well worth your time if you have an interest in history, architecture or religious artwork. Some of the works that we saw were truly a once in a lifetime experience. We were so happy with our expedition that we hired him for the next day to see Sintra, as well as some additional sites on our way to the airport. Contact David and experience a little taste of Portugal for yourself.
