Itinerary
Silver Lake is a neighborhood in LA that is famous for murals, hills, and amazing food. This walking tour will take you through the area to visit some of the best restaurants in Silver Lake. Along the way, you'll see painted stairways, pass film locations, learn the neighborhood's history, and leave feeling full of food and knowledge! Come see why this neighborhood has been called one of the coolest in the world by travel magazines and websites.
Begin the tour with an award winning coffee from Muddy Paw. In a neighborhood full of coffee shops, it is nice to find one that also supports the Pasadena Humane Society!
The Micheltorena Stairs have been called "the most Instagrammed stairway in the world." These famous stairs have murals of hearts surrounded by beautiful rainbow colors. Learn all the history of this mural with the person that maintains it for the neighborhood!
Pass by Silver Lake's Oscar winning stairs and see a clip of the 1931 film that used the stairs.
What kind of LA food tour would this be if we didn't get an amazing taco? Choose between a fish or shrimp taco at the little beach on Sunset Blvd.
Great sushi can be found all over LA. Great Japanese BBQ isn't as ubiquitous. Luckily, we can sample amazing kushiyaki (skewers) from a chef with ties to the world-famous Nobu.
United Bread and Pastry is a 40+ year old family-owned Filipino bakery run by the nicest people in all of Los Angeles. You would probably never notice this spot on your own, but you won't forget it once you've been.
The tour will pass through the Silver Lake Farmers Market, which is only around on Tuesdays and Saturdays. While I pickup our award winning pupusas, you will have a few minutes to visit the booths and sample local produce.
You don't have to go all the way to Italy to have life changing gelato. For 20 years, Pazzo Gelato has been serving the best gelato in Los Angeles. You'll will have a hard time choosing which two flavors to mix and match. You'll also want to come back and see what is new, because the flavors change with the seasonal fruit from the nearby Farmers Market.

Chris provided so much information about the families who run & own the establishments we visited - really enjoyed the deep dive into the history of the Silverlake area, including the famous staircases. He showed us a music video & Laurel and Hardy clip that featured the places we saw. All the food we ate was delicious! Definitely going to look up his other tours!
Thank you so much for taking the Silver Lake Food Tour. I love getting to know local restaurant owners and workers, and sharing their stories with people on the tour. So much of Silver Lake has been changed into big chain businesses, but we still have some phenomenal restaurants that have been in the community for decades. I hope you will come back and explore the neighborhood to try some of the spots we couldn't fit into the tour. Thank you again for taking the tour!
An excellent few hours exploring the great neighborhood of Silver Lake. Chris is very knowledgeable and a true local of the neighborhood. He took us around the restaurants on Sunset, great choices. The painted steps and the tacos were the highlight.
Thank you so much for taking the tour and helping to support some great Silver Lake businesses! I also love the tacos we get from Playita, definitely a highlight of the experience. Thanks again!
Chris, our tour guide, was fantastic. He's very knowledgeable about the history of Silver Lake and knows the best places to visit and eat. Will definitely do another tour with Chris next time we're in town!
