The Dinner Detective True Crime Murder Mystery Show - Denver, CO

Itinerary

At The Dinner Detective, you’ll tackle a hilarious and challenging crime while you feast on a fantastic dinner. Just beware! The culprit is hiding in plain sight somewhere in the room, and you may find yourself as a Prime Suspect before you know it!  Our engaging and unique murder mystery dinner theatre performances have been playing across the country since 2004. Our show is very different from traditional murder mystery dinner shows.  We will hide non-costumed actors in the audience that are pretending to be part of the crowd.  This results in a much more social and interactive evening than with other shows.  Our shows are set during the present day and take place in real time.  Over the course of the night, our costumed Detectives will uncover clues, interrogate audience members that may or may not be part of the show, and help everyone get closer to solving the mystery.

Disappointed

Boring, overpriced. No need for it to be so expensive.

Low expectations is the key to happiness

Our party of eight celebrated a birthday at the Dinner Detective I really had no expectations, which is always advisable when you don't want to be disappointed. From what I surmise, is the Dinner Detective is a franchise that is provided murder mystery scripts from the parent company, then contracts with a hotel for room/catering, and hires local "talent". The performers were friendly, the script was "corny, and we had fun because we made it fun. It was an amateur production with the actors wearing their street clothes. No costumes or props/sets in the room just, eight round tables in a hotel event space. The food was edible, the service was poor but we didn't come to "eat" so we just accepted that part of the evening. Unfortunately three people in our party became ill about 8-9 hours later. I did voice concerns but they assured me that they did everything right (held food at right temperatures, didn't serve expired food) but did state the "protein" was cooked the day before and made a point to state the salad was made fresh that day. (this explains why you cant change what you order). While i give them credit for stating the meals were cooked the day belore, it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hello Karen, thank you for your comments. The Dinner Detective is very different from a traditional murder mystery show, and we're sorry the event was not to your liking. We appreciate you bringing your concerns to us after the event. After our email correspondence with your party, our venue did a thorough investigation of all food services and suppliers at our Sat 1/17 show in Denver, and their teams concluded that all parties and supplies were prepared properly and safely. No other guests or actors were affected. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you have a great weekend.

Come for the show, not the food

Great show! Just don't cime for the meal and meal service. My family and I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed interacting with the other guests. The show and the actors were funny and had us laughing and putting on our detective hats. HOWEVER, I'm glad I wasn't hungry because the chicken that was served was basically inedible. Overcooked to the point where I felt like I was chewing on chicken jerky. Meal service not great either, they came three times with the wrong entree ordered, and we basically just got up and found more salad dressing after waiting for much too long for it to be brought to the table

Disappointing

This was a very disappointing experience. The food was not good. Members in our group that had the chicken couldn't even cut through it. The acting was at a high school level. I would not recommend spending money on attending this event.

Great fun! 10/10 recommend

The staff was great, service was fantastic, food was classic “conference”, the entertainment was perfect!! Well timed comedy, hoppin story line, cool technology to share clues, and great mystery!! Well done! Selma Kayak and Queenie Ratchett can’t wait to try to solve the mystery again!!

Operator response

Thank you so much Shana!

Who dun it......the waiter.

The clues were clever and the food was good. Having the "mystery" in a hotel banquet room was a little of a let down. The interaction of the actors with the guests was fun.

First Mystery in Denver

I had a fantastic time at The Dinner Detective True Crime Murder Show on 24 May 2025. My tablemates—Chillin Dillon, Cam O’Flage, Smokey the Bear, and Leroooooy Jenkins—added to the fun with lively conversation and collaborative sleuthing as we worked to solve the case. The cast delivered an outstanding performance, making the evening both entertaining and immersive. I’m looking forward to experiencing another scenario in the future.
