Chapter 1: The Yugoslav Paranoia The tour starts with a drive to the first location during which we will talk about WW2 and the emerging of the Socialist Yugoslavia. On the first secret location we will go deep into the days of the Cold War. On sight we will experience the dark days of the Yugoslav Informbiro period, which resulted as a side effect of the break with the Soviet Union and the run for militarization that shaped the Country in the 50's. Please note: The tour locations are kept secret for a more immersive tour experience.

Chapter 2: People's life While driving to the second secret location we will talk about Josip Broz Tito, his personal life, political achievements and his attempts to make a tailor made socialism to better fulfill the needs of the Yugoslav people. The second location will discover the chapter that covers the life expectations and dreams of the simple people in Tito's Socialism. Starting with the Youth Work Actions and ending with the heavy industrialization of the 50's and 60's. At the end we will learn about the Yugoslav Popular Culture, talking about brands, music, automotive industry and lifestyle throughout the 70's and 80's.

Chapter 3: The Yugoslavian wars During the drive to the third location special attention will be given to the 80's. We will talk about the 1984 Sarajevo Winter olympics and try to understand why that period was considered the golden era of the Yugoslav Socialism. On the third location we will try to explain the fall of Yugoslavia triggered by economical depression and growing nationalisms which resulted with the flare up of the Yugoslav war, first in Slovenia and Croatia and one year later in Bosnia and Herzegovina where it reached its culmination. At the end, we will give a final overview on what was the Yugoslav dream and how it has dissolved. We'll summarize together the consequences of the war, the destruction and loss of human lifes that was the cause of it.

Chapter 4: Bosnia and Herzegovina today. While driving to the last location of the tour we will analyze together the situation in present day Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will try to understand the political structure with all the problems and challenges that the Country has at the start of the 21st Century. On the final location we will uncover the final act of the tour trying to place Bosnia and Herzegovina into a bigger frame of a possible membership in the European Union. Walking through the last tour site we will embrace once again the relics of a glorious past with the complicated reality and needs for an economical, cultural and political recovery of the Country. Amazing tour, a definite must when visiting Mostar. Marco our tour guide was fantastic, full 5 star experience. Meeting point very easy to find not far from the old bridge. Marco will then drive to several locations giving indepth knowledge on locations and during drive. So interesting, have been on many tours this was the best we have ever been on. Learned so much from Marco, he has a gift as a comunicator imparting his extensive knowledge. Everyone should do this tour to fully appreciate Mostar's history.

The explanation everyone needs!

It is no wonder why Marko (forgive spelling) has received so many 5 star reviews. I booked this tour because it was my first time to Mostar and I knew there was a lot of recent modern history and civil unrest in this region however I never knew why. Marko did a phenomenal job explaining the entire story of Yugoslavia from beginning to end in an interesting and relatable way, especially since he lived it during his childhood and his father was a part of the country in its prime. There are 4 stops along the tour and it is in a small van not walking so even on the hottest of days it is better than walking. Bring water though! At the end of the tour I understand not only the reason Yugoslavia came to existence, but the downfall, and affects it continues to have on this region to this day. Cheers to Marko and wishing him continued success with this tour and much more tourism in years to come!

MUST DO in Mostar to learn the history of the area.

Marko took us on an amazing Death of Yugoslavia tour. He provided the interesting history of Yugoslavia and provided personal stories and experiences about his family’s time in Mostar. As an American, I was truly uninformed on the history in this area, this is a must do while in Mostar. Additionally Marko is personable, funny and speaks excellent English!

Take this tour!

Sadat, our guide, was excellent. He knows history, and presented many interesting facts as well as person stories of family members. All of the places we stopped were quite historical but away from popular tourist spots, making it more realistic and meaningful.

It's is a history of Yugoslavia and the war. We had 4 stops and the history was great But every spot is in ruines. The cost of the tour is not worth it. You can read the history on line

Game of thrones fanatics only

Roko is an excellent guide capable of leading any kind of Dubrovnik tour since he is knowledgeable in all things Dubrovnik including history. He was friendly, helpful and fun. My husband never watched Game of Thrones so the tour was less interesting to him. The focus is 90% Game of Thrones so be sure you r a fan of the show to enjoy this tour.
