Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of 1.5 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia. Because of its location on the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history Tbilisi was a point of contention among various global powers. Tbilisi's diverse history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist and the Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though it is currently overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.

The citadel was demolished in 1819 and replaced by a jail down to the Soviet era (closed in 1938). The statue of King Vakhtang Gorgasali by the sculptor Elguja Amashukeli was erected in 1961

Introductory tours don’t get any better than this

Tako guided the tour I took, and it was wonderful to go walking with her! The tour schedule is well balanced: a mix of treats (fresh bakery bread + some quiet time tasting superior wines), a sense of historical Tbilisi and a sense of the present and future city. This tour was like having a look around with a funny and knowledgeable friend; I really recommend it.

Amazing and one of a kind.

We had the most AMAZING time with Giorgi during our walking tour. He was on time, professional, warmly and made us feel like we were paging through the story of Tbilisi. The whole experience was so worth it and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! The wine, bread, history and feel is something we will talk about for years to come. Let this be the first tour you do when you arrive!

From the numerous churches to the local wine and bread tasting, we had a fantastic experience discovering both its more famous and hidden sites and attractions. Unenthusiastic, inflexible and incomplete

I am hesitant to leave a negative review as everything else on our trip to Georgia was excellent, but after reading such positive reviews, we decided to book this trip to get an overview of Tbilisi on our first day there. Apparently, our guide, Giorgi, was not having a good day which is understandable as he had to wear a mask and trek up and down hills in over 40-degree heat. However, as it was a private tour and he was guiding a couple in their 60s, there should be some room for flexibility. The guide was very knowledgeable, but the information was delivered in an unenthusiastic way, and he seemed rather bored. Unlike other reviews, there were no stories or humor. As there were 5 churches on his itinerary and we are very interested in the history of the Jewish community in Georgia, we asked to see a synagogue rather than 2 of the churches scheduled. His response as we passed the synagogue we wanted to hear about and visit was "Here it is. You can come back on your own another time." We did go in briefly and fortunately, another tourist we met later on provided a complete explanation along with a video he made when visiting there. Giorgi also walked WAY ahead of us the last hour of the tour, which is not acceptable under any circumstances. We are world travelers and know what to expect and to top it off, there was no bakery visit, which we really would have enjoyed. Again, it seems the guide was having an off day and although we learned a lot, it could have been much better if the guide was relating to our needs and wants and not his own inflexible schedule.

Thanks a lot for your review. Your honest feedback allows us to improve not only Tbilisi Old Town Walking Tour but also all our tour products. As mentioned in the tour description, Tbilisi Old Town Walking Tour includes walking in the old town with various terrain. In order to enjoy the best panoramic views of Tbilisi, guests need to visit Narikala fortress via Aerial Cable Car and walk down the stairs to enjoy unique scenery and beautiful streets of Tbilisi. After the booking is made and the night before the tour date, we communicate to all guests to let them know more details about the tour and any recommendations for the tour. During the communications via email, guest can let us know about any special requests that they have. It would have been great, if you had told us in advance about your interest via our communication email, we would have instructed our guide to devote more time to your request, as our main goal is to make the tours as enjoyable as possible. In order to solve the issue, we will add special interest section during the booking process of our tours and ask our guests via communication email if they have any special interests other than the itinerary of the tour. The duration of the tour is 4 hours but because of the heat, to provide more enjoyable walking experience, the guide operated the tour during 5 hours. Due to the slow phase of the tour, the guide could not include stop for the Bakery, yet guide could include wine degustation as well as bread tasting in the tour. Tbilisi Old Town Walking Tour does not include drop off service but as you required transfer to the restaurant, the guide happily and without any extra charge, transferred you to the restaurant located in the downtown area of Tbilisi. To let you know until what time was the restaurant working due to COVID-19 regulations, the guide called to the restaurant manager and the guide did not leave the restaurant until he made sure that the restaurant manager would order the taxi for you after you finished your dinner. Additionally, to allow you to rest and relax and to minimize the distance you had to walk at the end of the tour, the guide walked ahead of you to drive the car as near as possible. Thanks again for your review. You feedback allows us to make Tbilisi Old Town Walking Tour more enjoyable for our guests. We will make sure our guides understand all needs and expectations that our guests have to provide the best experience possible. Additionally, we will add more stops and attractions to the tour itinerary to make Tbilisi Old Town Walking Tour as enjoyable as possible. Thank you for you time and effort. Your honest review means a lot for us. Thank you.

Best Walking Tour of my Life!

We had the best experience on this walking tour: the route was amazing and gave a great overview of Tbilisi and George (our tour guide) was beyond exceptional. We saw all of the main attractions such as Mother of Georgia monument, sulfur baths, cute streets of Old Tbilisi and so much more. Wine tasting was great! And we enjoyed bread as well. George made sure we had time to rest if we needed a break, but he was also managing our time on the tour very well. One thing I would suggest while taking this walking tour around Tbilisi is to make sure you’re wearing an appropriate attire for the churches (skirts and headscarves for women, long pants for men). We saw several old churches on this walking tour, so better be prepared for that. Overall, it was by far my favorite walking tour and it made our time in Tbilisi much more meaningful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Most excellent walking tour of Tbilisi

We had a walking tour with George, which was absolutely fantastic. He is by far one of the best guides I have ever experienced. First, his knowledge of the history of Georgia was top notch. He answered all of the many questions we had for him. You could also see he was passionate about the tour and being a guide. The most welcome thing though was his willingness to go above and beyond. He helped us find an exchange place to exchange money that had the best rate. He also took us to a place to get a Covid PCR test and helped discuss details with the staff there. These last couple things were in addition to the regular tour. The bottom line is, George was one of the best tour guides I have experienced and I would rate the tour a solid 15/10. I highly recommend using George’s services the next time you’re in Georgia.
