Description

Taormina, Savoca and Castelmola: visit the beauties of these three famous towns in Sicily, starting from “The Godfather” scenery!

Tour Options

From Catania
  • Departure from Catania and nearby area snack

Itinerary

60 min

Our first town of the one day tour will be Savoca, a characteristic medieval town. We will visit one of the fascinating catacombs of the Cappuccini Convent which hosts the mummified bodies of monks and nobles from Savoca. The bar Vitelli is the highlight of the tour: become famous in the scenes of the film The Godfather, here you can taste a delicious Sicilian granita and look at the photos taken during the shooting of the film.

120 min

Our second town will be the majestic Taormina. You can here visit the Greek Theatre (ticket is not included in the price), one of the major Ancient sites in Sicily, which offers a unique panoramic view of the sea and Mount Etna.  Walking along Corso Umberto, you can visit the Cathedral and enjoy the stunning view of Capo Taormina bay. Here in Taormina you will enjoy a free Sicilian snack: delicious tasting of products typical from Sicilian culinary tradition as the famous “tavola calda – hot table“. You will eat different arancini, pizza, calzoni, with Sicilian Doc wine.

120 min

Next stop will be in Castelmola, a characteristic medieval suburb suspended between the sky and the sea. Castelmola is considered a big balcony on Taormina, also here you will enjoy a fantastic view of Etna on one side and the Ionian sea on the other. From the square Sant’Antonio begin our walk in the alleys. Around the small streets it’s possible to see small shops that sell souvenirs, laces and embroideries made by locals women. Finally the last stop in Castelmola  is the visit of the “Bar Turrisi”, a very typical bar for a good coffee or a tasting of almond wine, typical Sicilian dessert wine.

Superb Tour!

This tour was an absolute highlight of our trip! Savoca is a stunning, tranquil Italian gem, and lunch in Castelmola was truly superb. Taormina completely lived up to the hype, but the best part was our guide, Damiano. His extensive knowledge of all things Sicily made the experience unforgettable.

It was a fun day and informative

This tour was excellent. The pace was just right and our tour guide Damiano was excellent. He gave us information the entire trip while driving some very perilous roads.

Spectacular views

Great wat to see these towns, no parking or traffic hastles, and they know exactly where to go. The scenery along the way to the towns is as good as the towns themselves. Would have been nice to have some more photo opportunities, but I guess it's hard to stop. A very worthwhile, scenic, historical and interesting tour, well worth doing. A lot (lot!!) of tourists.

A must when in Catania

The tour guide Damiano was absolutely incredible. Very good driver in a busy city. The experience was greatly enhanced by his knowledge. Having a trip that hits the 3 cities in 1 day with a lunch was perfect and well executed. The price was very reasonable. Would be great for a big or small group. Ultimately the guide made the experience fabulous

Nice tour

We spent a lovely day visiting these small towns. All had beautiful views and worth a visit. Our driver/tour guide was wonderful and gave good insights and brief history of site. Taormina was beautiful but really a huge tourist trap.

It's a very hilly drive,...

It's a very hilly drive, so be prepared for the turns as well as the scenery. Savoca was a peaceful delight, but a lot of climbing uphill. Castelmola was quiet but compact. And Taormina was a crowded outdoor shopping mall that used to be a real town. The guide had some information for us, but was mainly just a driver. It's still worth the motion sickness to see the three towns in one day.
