Tallinn Old Town Audio Tour

Description
Tallinn’s Old Town is one of Europe’s most intact medieval cities, with its limestone walls, towers, and merchant houses largely still standing as they did 700 years ago. On this self-guided audio tour, you’ll trace Estonia’s turbulent history from Hanseatic trading hub to Soviet occupation. The tour starts at Fat Margaret Tower, a squat, thick-walled fortification that once guarded Tallinn’s harbor. From the Patkuli and Kohtuotsa viewpoints, you’ll look out over red rooftops, church towers, and the Baltic Sea beyond, before descending through the Danish King’s Garden, St. Catherine’s Passage, and the Town Hall Square. The tour ends at a hilltop viewpoint near Freedom Square, where a metal tile marks the starting point of the 1989 Baltic Way – the 675-kilometre human chain in which two million people linked hands across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to demand freedom from Soviet rule.

Walk through this atmospheric square framed by some of Tallinn's best-preserved medieval defence towers and limestone walls. Stroll along the ancient fortifications and appreciate how this remarkable stretch of wall has stood guard over the city for over 700 years.
Climb to this stunning hilltop terrace and enjoy sweeping views over Tallinn's red rooftops, church spires, and the Baltic Sea stretching to the horizon. Marvel at one of the finest panoramas in the entire Old Town, best seen on a clear day when the sea shimmers in the distance.
Enjoy breathtaking views from this popular Toompea Hill terrace, where the medieval Lower Town unfolds below in a patchwork of towers and terracotta rooftops. Pass by the street performers and artists who gather here and soak in the atmosphere that has made this Tallinn's most visited viewpoint.
Explore the oldest church in mainland Estonia, a serene limestone cathedral that has stood on Toompea Hill since the 13th century. Admire the noble coats of arms lining its interior walls, each one telling the story of the Baltic German families who shaped Tallinn's aristocratic history.
Marvel at this imposing Russian Orthodox cathedral, its onion domes rising boldly above Toompea Hill as a deliberate symbol of Imperial Russian power. Discover how this grand building, completed in 1900, became one of the most politically charged landmarks in all of Tallinn.
Stroll through this peaceful hilltop garden, said to be the spot where the Danish flag fell from the sky during a 13th-century battle, giving Denmark its national symbol. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and the charming views over the Old Town's rooftops and towers below.
Walk into the heart of medieval Tallinn, a beautifully preserved cobblestone square that has served as the city's commercial and civic centre for centuries. Admire the elegant Gothic Town Hall and imagine the merchants, traders, and public gatherings that have animated this square since the 1300s.
Pass through these iconic twin medieval towers, one of the most photographed entry points into Tallinn's Old Town. Explore the atmospheric lane beyond the gate, where flower sellers, cafes, and centuries-old stonework create one of the city's most memorable first impressions.
Arrive at Tallinn's grand Freedom Square, where a striking glass-and-steel Victory Column commemorates Estonia's hard-won independence. Stand on the metal tile that marks the starting point of the 1989 Baltic Way, the extraordinary 675-kilometre human chain that helped bring Soviet rule to an end.

Experience was great. Length was not too short, not too long - we got to see different sides of the city, some great panoramic spots, some hidden gems. And most interesting was to learn all the dramatic stories from the Middle Ages to nowadays that formed this great city. Best for curious people who want to learn about the city at their own pace, without stress, with the ability to stop by any time. The app worked amazingly well - recordings started automatically with all instructions on where to go - we did not even need to look at the phone. Fantastic user experience.
What a fantastic and inspiring walking tour! We got to see the must-see spots combined with fascinating knowledge and stories about the city and history. This tour exceeded my expectations! Highly recommend and I will most likely do it all over again next time I come to visit!
A fantastic way to explore Tallinns Old Town! The guide is propagated with engaging stories and was easy to follow, and the GPS worked perfectly. Worth the money. Highly recommend if you want to explore at your own pace.
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Tallinn. Walking through the old streets while listening to the stories made the whole place feel alive. You can really feel the history. Would definitely do it again and recommend to anyone visiting. Highly recommend!
Excellent value for money. You get a professionally made tour that you can start anytime, pause, and revisit later. Much more flexible than a live tour, especially when travelling with teenagers. Clear directions and great content.
I bought this tour on another platform and felt in love with this type of travelling. Some other audio tours I have tested before were nothing like this. Very human, very engaging, with a real person behind the content, not AI-generated. And it easily led us through the city.
I have never had such a good audio tour. The whole experience was very good - I came to starting point which is close to the harbour and stations and when audio guide on the app was not only telling the stories but also giving directions where to turn where to look. Audios were starting automatically at the right place so I could just walk and look around. Felt as if I am walking with a personal guide or a local friend. Super easy to use app. Content was also great. Very human, with interesting stories that were not too long but just right in length and content with some nice personal additions.
