Itinerary
Departure from Papeete Marina, where your captain and naturalist guide will welcome you for an unforgettable adventure at sea. Together, you will head towards the Papeete pass while listening to your guide’s fascinating stories about the history of the Teporionu district, which once encompassed Papeete, Pirae, and Arue. During the cruise, be ready for a magical moment as you may observe marine wildlife playing around the waves. This is the perfect opportunity for your guide to share insights about the different cetacean species found in Polynesia and their essential role in the marine ecosystem.
Next, you will stop at the famous stingray spot, where you may meet Charlotte and her companions. In these crystal-clear waters, you may also spot graceful eagle rays and boxfish drifting with the current of the natural hoa channel that runs through the area. This magical stop gives you the chance to snorkel and observe these fascinating creatures in a serene, unspoiled underwater setting.
Head to the Papa Whiskey “aquarium,” a true hidden gem that showcases one of the most stunning shades of blue in all of Tahiti. The water here is exceptionally clear, inviting you to an unforgettable underwater exploration. Beneath the surface, you can admire the remains of a plane that crashed in the 1980s, as well as historic whaleboats from around 1890–1900 that were once used for whale hunting. The experience gets even more surprising as you discover a whimsical scene on the seabed: a desk with a submerged laptop, offering a unique setting for fun and memorable photos. An unforgettable experience that blends history, mystery, and natural beauty in a single snorkeling stop.
Before leaving the lagoon, you will pause in front of the Taapuna wave, an iconic surf spot for anyone who has surfed in Tahiti. From here, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the ocean and the island of Tahiti. It is also the perfect moment for your guide to explain how the passes are formed and to raise awareness about the environmental challenges related to preserving coral reefs and the surrounding marine ecosystem.
After a short cruise along the reef, you will arrive at the Sapinus surf spot, located opposite the museum, a unique place where a freshwater spring emerges just 3 meters below the surface. This site is a true sanctuary for green sea turtles, which live here year-round. Very sociable, they move calmly around you as long as you keep a respectful distance.
To end this adventure on a high note, you will have the chance to enjoy a delicious Tahitian poisson cru, a traditional Polynesian dish loved by travelers from around the world. You will savor this refreshing meal on a wide, shallow sandbank surrounded by the turquoise waters of the lagoon. To accompany this special moment, you can cool off with local fruit juices while relaxing in this stunning natural setting.

We had a great day out on the lagoon. The stand outs for us were the passion and commitment the team had to the welfare of the sea life and the care and attention they applied to making sure we were always safe in the water and comfortable. Getting to see and swim with the turtles was a highlight. The lunch was nice also ! We missed the whale watching season as it starts later in the month , but we will be back and join these guys again , Māuruuru roa !
Māuruuru roa, Edmund! We’re so happy you enjoyed exploring the lagoon 😊 Thank you especially for your kind words about the care we put into the marine life we encounter and the safety of our guests — it really means a lot to our team. It was a pleasure having you on board, and we’ll be waiting for you next time for whale season! 🐋 Māuruuru again and see you next time in Tahiti!
Good communications prior to our adventure that focused on our snorkeling experience, health, and any dietary issues. Arrived at the pickup point on time. Very knowledgeable about marine life, did a good job teaching us about things we might see and did see. Very responsive to any need (getting wet suits on, getting in/out boat, something to drink). Healthy emphasis on safety. Very professional and friendly bunch.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review. We’re delighted that our pre-trip communication, attention to your snorkeling comfort, and care around health and dietary needs helped you feel well looked after from the start. Sharing Tahiti’s marine life in a way that is both educational and fun, while keeping safety front and center, is exactly what we aim for. Māuruuru roa for your kind words — we’d love to welcome you back on the lagoon. — Teiki & the Wild Explorer Tahiti tea
Water can be a bit murky and lots of wind but the tour operators were awesome and gave us the complete tour both inside and outside of the water. We also had a delicious lunch!
Thank you so much for your kind review! Lagoon conditions can vary with wind and weather, so we’re glad our team could still make the afternoon enjoyable and give you a complete experience both on the boat and in the water. Delighted you enjoyed the local lunch as well. Māuruuru roa, and we hope to welcome you back in Tahiti!
We had an amazing day with our captain and guide! So knowledgeable about anything you wanted to know. True stewards of the environment and animals. We saw many fish in multiple spots and safety always top of mind. Ended our day with a tasty Tahitian lunch and drink. Would definitely do this again!!

Fun snorkeling in clear water! They delayed their start time to wait for our cruise ship to arrive. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re especially happy we could make the timing work smoothly with your cruise ship arrival. Welcoming cruise passengers can require extra flexibility, and our small-group format allows us to adapt more easily and offer a more personal, relaxed experience from the very start. These people go above and beyond to entertain and educate guests about marine life and Tahiti. They make it a fun excursion ending with a lunch standing waist deep in crystal clear water on a sand bar. Well worth the money.
Thank you for spending the day with us! We’re so glad the mix of marine-life & Tahitian culture insight and a relaxed pace clicked and that the sandbar lunch in the lagoon was a highlight. We keep groups small and the experience low-impact so there’s time to learn, have fun, and savour local flavors. Māuruuru roa for the recommendation!
Very nice tour of the lagoon and beyond. Did two different snorkel dives. Saw many fish and turtles. The guide and boat captain both nice and informative about the area. The Lunch was a delicious local fish bowl. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for joining us and for the lovely words! We’re glad you enjoyed the tour and that our crew’s local insights added to the day. Happy, too, that the fresh local fish bowl hit the spot—keeping lunch simple, local, seasonal, and lagoon-friendly is part of our ethos.
Very enjoyable tour and great equipment. Guide and Captain were very friendly and relaxed. Felt like a very genuine experience and I would like to learn more about this area and spend more time here. Thank you.
Julie, māuruuru roa for the kind words! We’re so glad the relaxed vibe, small group, and crew insights made it an easy, genuine day on the lagoon. There’s a lot more to discover here—next time maybe you can join us on our whale watching tour!Until then, thank you for joining us!
Small group, top safety and animals respected. The efficient launching system makes the exit easy and pleasant. We were able to share magical moments with whales and even eagle rays. A memorable day with Teiki between ocean and lagoon! 🌊🐋
Absolutely unforgettable! Adrienne was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, Israel brought the true “Mana” (he’s basically a whale whisperer!), and Teiki took such wonderful care of us. We were lucky enough to see spinning dolphins and several whales, and they explained everything so well—why we approached the way we did and how to respect the animals. The highlight was finding a mother and calf. We swam close enough that we actually had to back away to avoid touching them. Being in the water with these gentle giants was beyond words—truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I’ll never forget!
Ia ora na, Māuruuru roa for this wonderful review 🌺 We’re delighted that Adrienne, Israel and Teiki made your day both educational and memorable, with respectful encounters and clear guidance throughout. Spinner dolphins and humpback whales—especially a calm mother-and-calf—are truly special moments. Our team always follows Polynesian regulations and the animals’ behavior, guiding guests to keep appropriate distance and adjust positioning for their comfort and safety. We’d be honored to welcome you back for more lagoon discoveries soon 🐋✨ — Wild Explorer Tahiti Team
