Itinerary
Szentendre is a historic town with cobblestone streets, Baroque architecture, and a lively art scene. Settled by various peoples over the centuries, it became an important center for Serbian refugees in the 17th century, who left behind a distinctive Orthodox heritage. Today, its museums, galleries, and Danube River promenade make it a favorite destination for visitors interested in culture and history.
Visegrád Castle in Hungary is a history buff's/nature lover's dream. Combining an impressive 13th-century citadel with stunning Danube views, this stop is a great opportunity to explore Hungary's royal past and take amazing photos of the Danube Bend. You can even see a wax figure exhibit of the famous 1335 meeting of three kings. (Please note that between January 12 - February 28, the castle is only open on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays.)
Towering over Esztergom, Hungary, the Esztergom Basilica is a sight to behold. As the largest church in the country, it boasts a grand neoclassical design, a massive dome visible for kilometers, and a rich history. Built on the site of earlier churches dating back to King Stephen I, it's the seat of the Catholic Church in Hungary and offers stunning views and a deep connection to Hungarian history. Esztergom Castle, next to the basilica, was the royal residence and the political and religious center of Hungary from the reign of Saint Stephen until the mid-13th century.
From Esztergom, we will briefly cross into Slovakia for postcard-perfect views of the basilica and the city’s old town.
For those interested, Szentendre’s Marzipan Museum showcases the artistry of this sweet craft, with life-size sculptures of Lady Diana, Michael Jackson, and many other figures from history, cartoons, and nature. Watch master confectioners at work as they shape sweets into edible art, making the visit both fun and educational - and of course tasty.
Visegrad has a hidden gem: the Pilis Biosphere Reserve, a national park within the national park. It is a picturesque region characterized by its unique vegetation, meandering creeks, cascading waterfalls, and serene lakes teeming with trout. You can enjoy the unique experience of tasting freshly prepared trout, caught straight from these lakes, or game from the surrounding forests, at a cozy forest restaurant nestled among the trees (the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but there are many other lunch options available nearby).

The wife and I had such a great experience with Tamas today. He showed up at our hotel early for our pickup time and was waiting outside. He has sent me a message that morning so I let him know we were in the lobby about 10 mins before our scheduled pick up time and he walked right in and greeted us. He was very friendly and came prepared with drinks and snacks for the day. His van was very comfortable to ride in , and he made sure the temperature in the back was to our liking. Along our journey we opted to hear about the history of the areas we were driving through. He was very knowledgeable about historical events from early history to more modern eras. It was very apparent he has a passion for what he does. During our stops he talked about the building and ruins in the area which was great information. For lunch he recommended an excellent restaurant that was well priced and delicious.. Just as an fyi bring your passport with you for this tour as we briefly passed into Slovakia for a great vantage point. I would also recommend comfortable walking shoes. There were a handful of flights of steps but I wouldn’t say the activity level is more than moderate. My Apple Watch recorded around 10k steps, some of which were self inflicted as we spent some time going back and forth through some shops. We were dropped back off safe and sound to our hotel in the afternoon with lots of pictures and great memories. I recommend this tour and would do it all over again!
Thank you very much for the kind words! I’m really glad you had such a great day and that everything, from the pickup to the route and stops, worked smoothly for you. It was a pleasure showing you around and sharing some of the history along the way. I’m happy you enjoyed the restaurant as well—always nice when that turns into a highlight too. Thanks again for choosing the tour and for the recommendation. If you’re ever back in Hungary, I’d be delighted to explore more together!
The guide is very knowledgeable in history. He is very kind person with warmest concern to us. We were treated very friendly.
I’m really glad you felt that way—thank you. It was a pleasure spending time with you, and I’m happy you enjoyed the tour. I hope to see you both again!

Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed the tour—it was a pleasure showing you around. Hope our paths cross again in the future!
My Mom and I loved this tour! Tamas has an extremely deep knowledge of Hungarian history, is a wealth of information, and has a great sense of humor. During the drive he told us Hungary's History and even pointed out some of the Roman ruins. At each stop, his historical commentary was much appreciated, informative, enlightening, and definitely added to the overall experience. He was kind and courteous as he offered us bottles of water and snacks. Also, he was really patient and never rushed us, as my Mom and I did some shopping at a market in our free time in Szentendre. If I'm ever in the area again, I would book one of his other tours he offers. We can't recommend this tour enough.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback! I’m really glad you enjoyed the day, the history along the way, and the overall experience. It was a pleasure to guide you, and I’m happy it felt informative and relaxed. It would be a real pleasure to welcome you again on another tour if you return to Hungary!
