Itinerary
Our office is in Madach Imre street 12, which lies between Madach Square and Gozsdu-Court.
Ride through Downtown of Budapest to the Danube Bank. Enjoy safe bicycle ways and some quiet downtown roads. You are your own guide, go at your own speed and feel free to choose your breakes. Pass historical monuments like St. Stephens Basilica and Parliament.
From Margaret Bridge we suggest to you to enter Margarete Island. Actually you could spend the whole day there, but your target will be to continue to Buda-Side of the city, Old-Buda and the Roman Beach. On Margaret Island private car traffic is prohibited, but take care on the public busses and pedestrians ! Some bars are located on the river bank, some cafes will be on your way and a wonderful scenery. Continue to Arpad Bridge in the north of the island, pass under the bridge and turn up to the bicycle way which leads you on the bridge to Buda.
You will be surprised to find one of the oldest parts of Budapest behind some socialist apartment blocks. Be prepared to ride a short distance on some cobble-stones, but you will be awarded with the impression of a historical small town and idyllic houses. You can enjoy a break, even visit some interesting museums, or you continue along the Danube Bicycle Trail "Eurovelo 6".
Passing an old gas plant which is now a software park and passing under a railway bridge (actually you can pass here to Pest-Side) you will reach the Roman Beach. Famous recreational area of Budapest, quite crowded on summer evenings and weekends. Plenty of restaurants and beach bars and depending on the water lever of the Danube beaches. Be aware that bathing is forbidden ! Take your time and enjoy ! After the Roman Beach you will find excellent signage to Szentendre and the Danube Bicycle trail. A new build bicycle way will lead through a forest at the Danube (be aware of the Moscitos !!) to Lupa-Lake, which is an artificial lake offering real beach feeling. The entrance however is from the other side (i.e. south-western), where there are large parking places.
If you are really focussed on reaching Szentendre then you will pass the lake on the bicycle way. But it is also great to spend the day at the Lupa lake - just than you shall postpone your trip to Szentendre to another day !!
Szentendre is a beautiful settlement at the Danube ca. 25 km north of Budapest. It offers a mediterranean atmosphere and houses artists. Originally Serb & Croat settlement, therefore with a huge Serb church. The best is to park the bicycles somewhere at the river and make a walk through the pedestrian area. Plenty of restaurants are waiting for you. There are beaches, where you can bath.
On weekends there is the option of a Boatride of approx. 1 hour from Szentendre downstream to Budapest (if you have booked "option: return by boat"). All days you can return by regional train "HEV" to Budapest (option: "return by train"). The train gives full flexibility as it runs several times per hour. Relax and enjoy the Danube and it's riverbanks. You can take the bicycle on the boat and return to our office from the Downtown-boat stop on Pestside, next to "Vigado". Take care: the boat first stops in Buda, Batthyany Square, before crossing to the final stop at Vigado. You can by some softdrinks on the boat, otherwise there is no service.

Bicycle in great condition, clear explanations of the ride. Lots of bike paths, no elevation, really easy.
Merci beaucoup!
Friendly staff and easy to find. The ride to Szentendre was beautiful and a great day trip. Would recommend!
Dear Felicia, many thanks for joining the selfguided tour to Szentendre!
Fantastic service, helpful with advice, directions and accessories (phone fixture, Bungy strap for bag). Ride range of bikes to choose from. Ours were as new and in great condition, good quality, well geared. We cycled 70 kms and enjoyed every moment.
Great to hear! many thanks and hope to see you again!
We had a fantastic trip to Szentendre! We rented great bikes for the whole family — two parents and two teenage girls. We followed the route provided and rode all the way to Szentendre. Along the way, we stopped for a picnic on Margaret Island and at the Roman coast along the Danube. The ride was easy. We were worried it might be difficult since we’re not experienced cyclists, and it’s 25 km after all — but it turned out to be very manageable. We also took a boat ride back, which was included in the rental price. Ask ChatGPT
Thanks for selecting our selfguided tour to Szentendre, which is a great bicycle excursion from Budapest, maybe you could try out next time our tours into the Danube Bend, all the best, Thomas
Great day on the bikes. Staff were amazingly friendly and informative and suggested excellent stop points for drink/ lunch. Bikes were in excellent condition. Would highly recommend using this company for any bike hire or bike trips.
You are always welcome. We are glad to share our experience and favourite spots! Thomas
We searched last minute availability for a self guided bike tour down the Danube River to Szentendre but none was showing so we got in touch with Bike and Relax owner Thomas directly through WhatsApp after finding the information on his website. He was so helpful and obliging and sorted us early the next morning with three great Austrian style bikes, helmets, water bottles and maps. He talked us through the journey and organised our tickets to return by boat. The 26km bike ride was relatively easy as all flat. Hardest part was biking through the city. Beware of areas you’re not allowed to bike through such as Parliament Buildings square. Time your trip if possible to see the Margaret Island water fountain show on the hour. We spent a lovely day exploring the quaint village of Szentendre. The bike trip was a highlight of our stay in Budapest. Thanks again Thomas for your help organising it for us!
Dear Jenny, thank you for being our guests! We are also providing self-guided tours along the Danube between Bratislava and Budapest, and Vienna and Budapest and excursions to the Danube Bent. Plenty of things to do and to explore.
We collected our bikes from a very central location where the owners of the business were so helpful & obliging, setting us up with all the help & info we could want. The bikes were excellent. The trip turned into quite an adventure as the Danube was flooded & occasionally we had to find alternative routes. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Unfortunately in early summer/springtime you have to calculate with high water in the Danube and I am glad that you enjoyed it nevertheless. It is also a great summer ride or in autumn along the Danube and enjoying the beaches and charming villages.
Guide, Laszlo, did a great job showing us around Budapest. The ride to Szentendre and boat ride back were terrific. Only thing is I wished we would have had more time in Szentendre... maybe less time riding through Budapest next time!
