Itinerary

180 min

We’ll take the scenic route to Hunter Valley via the iconic Tourist Drive 33 — a beautiful beginning to a day designed for connection, curiosity, and slowing down — just winding roads, open skies, and changing landscapes that set the tone for the day ahead. With a small group and a flexible approach, this experience feels more like a road trip with new friends than a typical tour. It's all about the kind of travel that leaves room for stories, spontaneity, and soul.

30 min

Wollombi is a charming, historic village where time seems to stand still. We'll explore its quaint shops, heritage buildings, and tranquil vibes and grab a quick coffee.

60 min

You begin at one of the Hunter’s most historic family wineries, established in 1858. This is where the region’s story starts. You’ll taste classic, savoury, dry wines made from some of the oldest producing vines in the country, including their signature Semillon, known for its fresh citrus notes that develop beautifully with age. It’s not about trends here, it’s about tradition, balance, and understanding what makes this region unique.

60 min

Vinery 2. We shift into something bolder. You’ll explore big reds and compare Shiraz or Chardonnay from different Australian regions, getting a real sense of how climate and terroir shape flavour. Not just a drink, but something you actually experience and understand.

60 min

Next comes the personal side of the Hunter. You’ll visit a boutique, family-run winery representing a new generation of winemaking, where creativity and expression come through in every pour. This stop is paired with a savoury Aussie pie tasting that becomes your lunch.

60 min

And then, a sweet finish. Enjoy a guided wine and chocolate pairing, where flavours are carefully matched to bring out the best in both. From lighter wines with delicate chocolate to richer reds with deeper notes, it’s a relaxed and indulgent way to end the day.

Pass by

Return to Sydney via Highway7 After a full day of exploring, well head back to Sydney the fast way. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride maybe even a nap while we cruise down the highway with good music and good vibes.

Wonderful experience in Hunter Valley

A wonderful experience in the Hunter Valley Michael_K, Apr. 2026 We hadn't heard of the Hunter Valley before, and this wine region was recommended to us by Australian friends. Sabina contacted us a few days before the tour and asked about our specific preferences and requests. Because the sun sets early, we agreed to start the tour an hour earlier. Sabina made our day absolutely wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, introducing us to three wineries and having the tastings all planned out in advance. She was able to provide detailed insights into the region’s unique features, and during the time we had, we learned a great deal about viticulture and its history, as well as the land and its people. The ten-hour tour flew by. We can wholeheartedly recommend this private tour to anyone interested in wine and would go on another tour with Sabina as our guide anytime.

Hunter Valley is such a special place and I love that you got to discover it through its wineries, its history and its connection to the land. Ten hours really does fly by out there! Your kind words mean the world and I would absolutely love to take you exploring again anytime. Please give my warmest regards to your Australian friends who recommended the trip! Sabina

A beautiful experience in the Hunter Valley

We were not aware of Hunter-Valley and this wine region was recommended to us by Australian friends. Sabina contacted us days before the tour and asked us about special preferences and wishes. Because of the early sunset we agreed to start the tour an hour earlier. Sabina made a wonderful day possible for us, she was extremely competent and friendly and introduced us to three wineries and had planned the tastings. She knew how to report in detail about the special features of the region and we learned a lot about winegrowing and its history as well as about the land and people in the time available. The ten-hour tour flew by. We can only recommend this private tour to anyone interested in wine and would go back on tour at any time with Sabina as guide.

Wonderful Hunter Valley wine tour!

Sabina is extremely knowledgeable about wines and wineries in Hunter Valley. We arrived too early for our Petersons Winery tasting hence Sabina adapted and took us to a cheese and wine tasting. The cheese and winery shop was a gem called Fat Cow. Drank amazing 2011 Shiraz. And bought 6 bottles. What a deal $33/nottle. Fat Cow was a hidden gem found by Sabina. We would definitely recommend Sabina and book a wine tasting/hiking tour with her in the future .Who knew…she’s also a hiking guide. A great tour guide who also loves wine and hiking.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this beautiful review. I’m really glad we could adapt the day and that you ended up discovering Fat Cow too. It’s one of those little gems that make the Hunter Valley feel extra special. And yes, that 2011 Shiraz was such a good find. I really appreciate your kind words about my wine knowledge and guiding. It means a lot that you enjoyed both sides of what I do. Wine and hiking are two of my favourite worlds, so being able to share both with guests is pretty special for me too. Thank you again for trusting me with your day, and I’d love to take you out again in the future.

Awesome visit to Hunter Valley!

Sabina was awesome! We did the Hunter & Wollombi Valley private wine tour. Sabina picked us up at our hotel(she was there 10 minutes early) and off we went on the 2 hour trek to wine country. We first visited Tyrrell’s where Scott took great care of us. This was our first glimpse into the relationship Sabina has built with the wineries. They obviously love her and treat her guests exceptionally well. Then we met Pete at Hunter Valley Fat Cow where they do wine and cheese pairings with locally sourced wines. We then went to Petersons winery where we tasted some fabulous wines! We wrapped up our tastings at Savannah Estates. Given that Savannah Peterson is the founder of Savannah Estates and the youngest of the Peterson family to pursue her passion in wine, you would expect the wines to be fabulous … and they were! We also had a sampling of meat pies with our wine that were well worth the additional cost! We wrapped up our wine tasting and headed back to Sydney with one more stop in Wollombi where we stopped and wandered around the historic village! We totally enjoyed our day with Sabina and would enthusiastically recommend her tours!

Thank you so much for this, it really means a lot to read. I loved spending the day with you and I’m so glad the Hunter and Wollombi Valley experience landed the way it did. Those relationships with the wineries are something I really value, so hearing that you felt looked after makes me smile. It was such a great flow of the day, good wine, good food, easy conversations and that last wander through Wollombi is always a nice way to slow things down before heading back. Thanks again for trusting me with your day and for the lovely recommendation. Hope to see you back out there again one day 🙂

Relaxing Day Among Hunter Valley Wineries

We had an amazing day on this private wine tour to the Hunter Valley and Wollombi Valley. I went with my parents, who were visiting Sydney for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience to share together. The drive out of the city was beautiful and relaxing, and stopping in Wollombi was a lovely surprise — a charming village with great scenery. The wine tastings were excellent, and we really enjoyed learning about Australian wines and the local wine culture. Everything was explained clearly and in an engaging way, making it enjoyable even for those who are not wine experts. What we appreciated most was how personal and relaxed the experience felt. There was no rushing, plenty of time to enjoy each winery, ask questions, and take in the surroundings.

Operator response

It was such a relaxed and easy day, and that is exactly how I like these private tours to feel. Wishing you all a beautiful rest of your time in Australia. Sabina :)

A ride to Huntervalley

We wanted to go to Yengo National Park- a bit of hiking- unfortunately it was not possible to get there because of the current road condition. The wine tour was interesting. Sabina was full of energy from start to finish and a very good driver. The drive through the beautiful landscapes we enjoyed very much.

Operator response

I am really glad to hear that you enjoyed the wine tour and the drive through the beautiful landscapes. I hope the complimentary pie tasting added something special to the day and helped make the experience stand out despite the change in plans. Thank you again for your flexibility, positive energy, and for sharing the day with us. Sabina

If you love wine you'll love this tour!

I booked a trip to Hunter with my partner last minute. We had limited time in Sydney but we wanted to make the most out of it. This tour was exactly what I wanted. Private, away from busy touristy spots. We had a great time! Thank you Beyond Guidebook!
