We had an incredible behind-the-scenes tour of the Sydney Fish Market with Mike. His passion for seafood, the industry, and the market itself really shone through from start to finish. Mike’s knowledge was outstanding, and the way he carried himself throughout the tour made the experience both engaging and enjoyable. Everyone in the group certainly walked away having learned something new. A fantastic tour and highly recommended!
Roger, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic. Tbh I was in two minds about the tour, but I enjoyed it so much! He imparted his wealth of knowledge in the most tireless and cheerful fashion. It was so interesting and entertaining. Thanks Roger.
Very enjoyable two hours going behind the scenes at the Sydney Fish Market viewing the Dutch auction system in action, retail operations, logistics, fishing fleet etc. Very informative guide with details on fish species together with cooking tips. Early start at 6am but there are other times available during the day. Highly recommended.
Excellent behind the scenes tour. Our guide, Dan, was enthusiastic about the market and his knowledge of the fish impressive. We got to see the auction, the stores, the Wheelers moving the boxes of fish around, the fishing trawlers and we were lucky enough to see this huge tuna that came in that morning. This trip was worth every penny and would definitely recommend.
What a fantastic tour of the workings of the Sydney fish markets! So interesting to watch the auctions and then the entire process of how the fish end up in the local (or international) fish shops! We were lucky enough to see the excitement amongst all of the workers when a 188kg blue fin tuna was actioned and subsequently displayed for public viewing today.
Fantastic educational piece on market operations and controls, food handling , fish types and the sea to shop front process Our guide Dan was epic , a promoters dream, full of knowledge and insights to every part of the fishing industry and all our questions too.
An excellent tour. I learned a lot about how the market operates and also about the many species of fish sold. Highly recommend.
This tour was absolutely amazing. Our guide, Dan was very knowledgeable and passionate in his presentation. Would recommend this tour to anyone.
We took a tour of the Sydney Fish Market today at 9am. It was fantastic! Two architects explained the challenges of building on that site, and the nightmare of trying to please the needs of many different user groups. We also bought some seafood before the big crowds arrived at 10am, and had prawns for lunch! We recommend this interesting insight into a very popular Sydney attraction. What a great design!
Well worth the early wake up. Seeing all of the different parts of the fish market operations was enlightening. Watching the live auctions - how fast they move, how much is going on at once – blew my mind. Our tour guide, Dan, shared his expertise on so many different types of fish on the stock room floor. If you like seafood I would definitely recommend this tour.
