Learn how to surf with Tamarindo’s #1 Surf School since 1989. All skill levels welcome. We are located directly in front of a beach break and we are Tamarindo’s original surf shop! We are highly experience, having taught over 100,000 surf lessons in the 30 years we have been operating. All of our staff members are friendly, bilingual and very experienced professionals. Over half of our staff has been with us for over 10 years! We cater specifically to each and every customer’s needs and it is our goal to have every customer leave 100% satisfied and we put a huge emphasis on safety. We are a fully insured company with properly trained instructors in water and surf safety, CPR and First Aid.

Best beginner surfing experience imaginable. Our instructors were Mauricio and Jorgie got all four of us up and running almost instantly. Absolutely phenomenal, and we can’t wait to surf again. I highly recommend Iguana Surf to anyone.

My girlfriend and I took a lesson with Iguana Surf in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Overall, the staff was very nice and made sure my girlfriend had fun. She is more beginner level, and I’m more intermediate, so we were at different surf abilities. Because of that, I ended up being left on my own to surf the larger waves while she worked with the instructor. I understand why the instructor focused more on her, but I think they should have offered a better option, like charging me for a board rental and making the actual lesson more focused on her. That would have made more sense for our different ability levels. The instructor did help her stand up and made sure she enjoyed herself, which we appreciated. The downside was that there were a couple bigger waves where she didn’t get great coaching on how to handle them or get under them safely, and she ended up hurting her neck a bit. The boards were also fairly beat up, which wasn’t ideal. Overall, everyone was friendly and she did have a good time, but I think Iguana Surf in Tamarindo, Costa Rica could do a better job organizing lessons for two people at different skill levels. I also think there could have been better safety coaching when the waves got bigger and better equipment available.
