.This tour gives an insight to how the local people live on the lake of Tonle Sap. Our very informative guide, Lei, was attentive to our needs and gave us a picture of life on the lake. The dinner on board the boat was great and the sunset did not disappoint either. A wonderful afternoon and evening was had by our little group, thank you.
Thank you for the 5-star review, Jane! It is wonderful to hear that your group had such a "cracking" evening out on the water with us. I am especially pleased that Lei provided such attentive service and deep insights into the local culture of Tonle Sap. We take great pride in our community-focused tours, so hearing that the dinner and sunset lived up to expectations means a lot to the whole team. We hope to welcome you back to the lake again soon! Best regards, Peter Gardiner Owner, Tara Riverboat
We were picked up from our hotel by tuk-tuk for a 25 min journey to catch out small boat. You then go along like a river where you'll see the stilt village and people fishing. The river opens out onto a massive lake. You'll stop at a large pontoon to see cross, and a possibility to by refreshments and souvenirs. From there you sail to a larger boat where your joined by others for a meal (set menu or buffet) and drinks. After that you head bak to where you started your trip.
Hi Steven, Thank you so much for the 5-star review and for taking the time to describe your journey in such detail. We’re really glad you enjoyed the tuk-tuk ride, the small boat trip through the stilt villages, and the experience of Tonlé Sap opening out before you—it’s always a special moment. We’re pleased you enjoyed the stop at the floating pontoon and the meal on board with fellow travelers. Thanks again for choosing us, and we hope to welcome you back on the water one day. 🚤🌅
Firstly the company needs to stop advertising this as a cruise when it is not. Most time is spent at a moored boat restaurant on the lake, and the boat goes nowhere. My trip stopped at a Lotus farm, which was fine, without much to see. The coach then drives to a dock where the tour guide pays for a smaller boat to take guests through the very interesting floating village stopping first at a 'crocodile farm' which is a shop on stilts where they have penned some crocodiles, and is no more a farm than 2 hamsters in a cage is a 'hamster farm'. The boat end at a large floating stationary restaurant with to be honest quite average food. The guide was very good, friendly, English- fluent and informative. All in all I would give this an average rating.
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We genuinely appreciate hearing different perspectives, as it helps us review how our tours are presented and delivered. We’re sorry to hear that the experience did not fully meet your expectations, particularly regarding the use of the word “cruise.” Our intention is to offer a combination of lake travel, floating village exploration, and a relaxed dining experience on the water, but we understand that this may not align with every guest’s interpretation of a traditional cruising journey. Your comments on this are noted. We’re pleased to hear that you found the floating village interesting and that our guide provided friendly, informative, and fluent English service — we’ll be sure to pass that feedback on to him. We also acknowledge your comments regarding the stops and dining experience, and we will review these aspects internally to see where improvements can be made. Thank you again for your honest review. We hope that if you visit the area again, we may have the opportunity to provide an experience that better matches your expectations. Kind regards, Peter
We were picked up at our hotel. Nice transportation. They stopped once at a restaurant type place where we walked around then got back in the van. We then got on a boat that took us through the floating village. . Actually very interesting and pleasant. We then stopped at a floating shopping spot. After that we were taken to the boat that we had dinner on. Mind you. The boat didn’t leave the dock. We boarded the boat. Had a drink and dinner. Dinner was mediocre at best. I will say the sunset was beautiful. We were then taken back in the smaller boat to our starting point. The hosts were nice but the “cruise” wasn’t at all what we expected. Lesson learned. Read the details.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the hotel pickup, transportation, floating village experience, and the sunset — it really is a special part of the evening. We appreciate your honest comments regarding the dinner and your expectations of the cruise itself. As outlined in the tour details, this experience is designed as a floating village exploration combined with a sunset dinner aboard a moored boat on the Tonle Sap Lake rather than a moving river cruise. That said, we understand how expectations can differ, and your feedback is helpful in reminding us to communicate this even more clearly. We’re pleased to hear our hosts made you feel welcome, and we truly value your comments as they help us improve both the experience and how it’s presented. Thank you again for joining us and for sharing your thoughts.
Bad tour guide. Accused me of being drunk when I only had 2 beers. Would not recommend this tour to anyone. Avoid avoid avoid.
Do not book this tour. Tour guide was arrogant and accused me of being drunk when I only had 2 beers. Not happy with the service at all. Avoid avoid avoid.
Hi, i am very sorry of your experience of our guide, can you please reach out to me at info@taraboat.com so we can discuss this further as i want to address this situation as soon as possible, thank you so much Miss Sreymom
What an experience ! Do not miss the opportunity to know more about beautiful Cambodia and its beautiful people! This trip for me was about knowing little more about Cambodia and its people than its sunset.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, your participation on this tour will greatly benefit the local floating school we sponsor, as all our profits go back into providing free education to the poorer families around the lake, we all welcome you with open hearts and arms when you return to our country, we wish you safe and happy travel always thanks Miss Sreymom
Do the Apsara shows for $18pp instead; they are cheaper, cleaner and a much better spread. It creeped me out when the tour guide wiped down glasses with little tissues in front of me before the bartender made my drink. The tour in the dingy boat to the Tara was interesting, just don't recommend the sunset buffet at $38. Small selection was less than the 17 items listed(by half) and did not seem to match the menu. Dessert was fruit. Based on the flyer I really thought we'd be riding around in the Queen Tara; instead it is sitting on the lake bed. (It's not a river boat and it does not cruise.) It rocked back and forth on the mud from the wind; and the boat floor is curved. Not recommended for folks who don't have balance or can't go up and down steep inclines. Tour company should make these things clear on the flyer. The guide was great, though. And we were asked for tips when no cost extra was indicated on the flyer. Makes you feel embarrassed if you come with the exact change for the tour.... Sorry, but I did not feel I got my money's worth.....Could use some music to make it less of a ghost ship.....
Hi , Thank you for your review of our sunset dinner and floating villages special, yes the tour of the floating villages is very interesting and changes all the time depending on the water levels and time of year, that is why we use our mini tara boats for the cruise and tour of the floating villages, the larger Queen Tara boat is almost 100 years old (ex cargo boat) and she is used for our buffet dinners and watching the beautiful sunsets over the lake from either our rooftop viewing restaurant or our main restaurant ,our staff asked for a tip? was wrong and i will address this issue together with asking why music was not played as it normally is, yes desert is local fresh fruits, to be clear all our information is clearly indicated on our website so as to have no confusion of our tour, including our buffet selection and all drinks are free of charge as per our offer, we do take all reviews seriously and the issues you have pointed out will be talked about and discussed with our staff, safe and happy travel always. Miss Sreymom
Really good tour. Our guide, Hong, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The floating village was quite interesting, as was the crocodile farm. The buffet and unlimited drinks on the floating restaurant were great! And it was a beautiful place to enjoy the sunset. We also made a new friend!
Thank you Richard for your lovely review of our sunset dinner and floating villages cruise tour, i will pass on your great comments to Hong and the rest of the team and we all wish you safe and happy travels always, Miss Sreymom
Food and drinks could have been more varied and portios are somewhat smaller than in restaurants used in other tours
Hi Zaza, Thank you for your review of our sunset dinner and floating villages cruise tour, normally we have a buffet dinner on for this tour, however at times we do the fixed menu dinner depending on how many guests we have booked, however even on the fixed menu our guides should have explained that you can order as many dishes as you like, i will have a chat to our guides for this tour and ensure they communicate this more to our guests, for the drinks we have wines and spirits, juices ,cocktails beers ect and of course soft drinks, its an open bar so you can order what ever you like, yes we could have more varied drinks but we are not a bar as such, just to explain to anyone reading this review our spirits are Southern comfort, Jim beam, Rum , Vodka, Gin, Baileys, beers are Cambodian cans and Angkor draft , the cocktails are popular and we use only branded drinks on our tours, thanks again and your participation on our tours will directly help in our efforts to improve the lake and water villages in education(we support local floating schools ), and also we support the clean up efforts of the Tonle Sap lake and rivers, your review is also quite welcomed as we always look at ways to improve our service . Miss Sreymom
