The tour was very informative related to history, places to see, and go. Food tasting experience was not as expected, it was one restaurant as opposed to street vendor food tastings. Food and restaurant were nice just not what we expected regarding street food tastings. Good familiarization to San Jose central avenue area. Very friendly.
Poor experience all around. Our hotel was outside of the pick up area and our guide offered to meet us there but didn’t share that we would be taking the bus to get back downtown, which was fine. What was not fine is that he spent those 35 minutes turned around and standing in the row in front of us talking the entire time. It started off endearing but then veered into him making disparaging comments about African Americans, Jamaicans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans among others. This did not change over the course of our trip despite our visible discomfort and saying that we did not agree with these remarks. The tour itself was a bit lack luster. We were able to sample some fruit in the local market, but it was nothing we couldn’t have done ourselves. In addition to the racist commentary, the guide espoused his personal beliefs, passing judgment on people of other religions and even for personal choices in diet. This really dampened the end of what was an enjoyable trip with many other wonderful guides. Please find another tour operator for this activity.
A very interesting day. The guide suggested in advance we went to Cartago & I said I’d rather stick to the food markets & itinerary on the booking. On picking me up I agreed on a trip to Cartago. It was fascinating but we had a very quick in & out of the cathedral. I was given a pre booked ticket to the theatre. The guides were knowledgeable and amusing. We then had a very quick trip to the central market virtually running g everywhere. He was insistent on me having a meal. Suggested what I have. But despite having paid for my trip I paid for our meal & he asked for petrol money on dropping me at my hotel. I learnt a lot about Costa Rica but hard to call it a food tour & much more expensive than expected.
