WATCHING and learning a new way of fishing , Watching a new way of fishing is truly an eye opening experience that starts with a quiet observation of the water’s shifting surface. You notice the fisherman standing perfectly still as his patience becomes the first thing that strikes your curious mind. He does not move a single muscle for several long minutes while the sun reflects off the waves in a dazzling display. You wonder what he is looking for beneath the deep blue until suddenly there is a slight shift in his focused posture. He prepares his gear with practiced and fluid motions that feel more like an ancient ritual than a modern hobby. This technique is unlike anything seen in a common textbook because every piece of equipment has a specific and weathered purpose.
We not only climbed on the stilts for the photo, but also fished for a while. The five fish caught (and some more from the market) were traditionally prepared for us by a very nice local family and we learned a lot about Sri Lankan culture. My son (9) and I have been super cared for by the guide, the fishermen and the cook. For those who want a local, sustainable and culinary fantastic experience, the excursion is recommended. Of course, sitting on stilts is not particularly comfortable. But even with little flexibility, you can try this original form of fishing over the waves.
Tuktukrental.com is a sympathetic company, the philosophy social and fair, the communication pleasant: You have the feeling that you are among friends. If something is difficult, you can quickly get support via WhatsApp or phone. The vehicle was well checked, and the driving school for The driver's license was strict, but helpful, (thank you, Emilda!) A critical point was the loss of the vehicle documents by us: When we learned that TTR charges $100 for the replacement, we were irritated by the amount. A constructive conversation was held, TTR wants to point out the case of loss at the beginning in the future, we ourselves will deposit the papers next time with the passports, where they are safe (and no longer on the keychain) A company also stands out in difficult situations, and that's what worked at TTR. We look forward to next time. Date of experience: 01. May 2025
I did not go with Ceylon Food Trials but with On the Go Tours. Fishermen use stilts to catch a fish and is an old tradition practiced by fisherman in Ahangama and Kathaluwa Sri Lanka.
I saw these stilt fishing in the water at the beach at Ahangama just out of Galle. This is mind boggling and an old tradition practiced by about 500 families in Galle, specially around he towns of Ahangama and Kathaluwa
