Sowcarpet Street Food Walking Tour in Chennai with guide

Description
Sowcarpet is Chennai's most famous food street and one of the greatest places to eat in India. Traders from across the country settled here generations ago and brought their food traditions with them. The result is a single street where you can eat Murukku sandwich, a uniquely Chennai invention, then Lassi made by a former wrestler, then freshly fried Jalebi from a stall serving the neighbourhood for decades. This guided street food walk takes you through Sowcarpet for two hours with a food evangelist who knows every stall and every story. You will taste signature dishes from legendary local stalls, walk through frenetic lanes brimming with spices, flowers and colour, and eat the way Chennai actually eats rather than the way tourists are usually fed. 5 Senses Tours is recognised by the Ministry of Tourism of India and a member of the Indian Association of Tour Operators. Every walk employs local guides and supports local food businesses, ensuring your food spend stays in the community.

Itinerary
Our food connoisseur will meet you at the entrance of the Police Station.
We will visit a local food joint which serves the iconic "Murukku Sandwich", most famous dish of Sowcarpet.
We move to Anmol Lassi centre, a place run by an ex professional wrestler, Dinesh Soni. He has been quenching the thirst of visitors to Sowcarpet for the last 30 years. The signature offering is Kesar lassi which is a sweet and creamy drink made with non-sour curd. I Saffron and sugar top up the ingredients. Served chilled in large glasses, the lassi also get a few drops of dried cream.
The food walk ends at the most famous chat shop of Sowcarpet called Kakada Ramprasad. Six decades since the classic Kakada jalebi was first fried in the quaint corners of Mint Street, the legacy of Kakada Ramprasad has come a long way. We will savor Aloo Tikki which is a magic of the blend of mashed potatoes and the traditional Indian spices. This will be followed by Jalebi, the dessert for all seasons.
Vada pav is the state dish of Maharashtra and the best place to savour it in Chennai is at Shree Vada Pav. It is a fast food dish which consists of a deep fried potato dumpling placed inside a bread bun sliced in half through the middle.

My guide, Ganesh, was very friendly and considerate. We stopped for many different food items, snacks, and beverages. I particularly enjoyed the saffron buttermilk and the Jigarthanda. The area was just a bit too crowded for me on this very hot night, but it was great to be able to see something different. We drove by Marina Beach on the way back to my hotel, which was a nice ending to the evening.
Really nice guide. I've already tried a lot of south Indian food and he made sure I was trying new things. I ate a lot of food. Enough to equal a large meal.
Ganesh was great, he was able to accommodate my quite stringent dietary requirements, having a diary allergy in India is no joke, had great chat and made sure I got back to my hotel safely
